No I don't know about any of the legal formalities, hence asking do we need
to contact them and ask whether they are willing...I mean, do they hold the
copyright esp to photos of buildings also that are over 60 years old (the
photos not the buildings).

Hi all,
I just saw this page [1] on facebook, it supposedly belongs to the Rare
Book
Society of India and they have a lot of old
images, older than 60 years.
Hence, do you think these can be uploaded to Wikipedia and maybe we can
ask
them whether they themselves would like to do as
such. If am not wrong,
maybe the GLAM team would know more about this?

That Facebook page has lots of beautiful images and not just of books.
Any way you can get them is good, but uploading them as DjVu files
would help transcribing them in Wikisource.
