Dear All,
Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 had been a great success, recording more than 37,000 images. The organizers would like to take this opportunity and thank everyone for their due support and cooperation.
We would like to bring this to the notice of Indian community, out of the INR 1,35,000 received as a part of the rapid grant, their is a left over balance of INR 59,000. This is after awarding cash prizes to the winners, reimbursement for photo walks, allocation for swags, etc.
The organizing team has decided to reallocate the balance amount for conducting a photo exhibition - cum fund raising campaign. Considering, Wikimedia India still deals with challenges of resolving FCRA issues, this is an attempt to raise domestic money. The photo exhibition would be probably backed with a meet-up or hackathon etc. The program would help in raising person-to-person awareness about Wikipedia and its sister project. It would help in getting estimates on conducting workshops in cities like Delhi etc where community need to be build up and bring in maturity.
The detailed plan and prospects have been listed below
(a) The winning ten images would be displayed along with posters on Wikimedia India, its vision & mission. It will be hosted at Dilli Haat, New Delhi on April 16 which falls on Sunday along with a festival (Easter), subject to booking. It is a highly visited tourist and recreational place, may refer to en.wikipedia for more details. The entire cost for the program is INR 55,000. This includes rent, images (3*4 feet mat finish), display lights, registration desk for fund raising, etc.
(b) Post exhibition images would be considered as a stock of Wikimedia India. It would be subsequently used be to conduct photo exhibition across India for the same vision. Some of the volunteers in Bhopal and Bengaluru have already volunteered to conduct it in their city.
This is a small pilot experimental initiative of the chapter out of the left over funds. Suggestions for the same would be appreciated.
Thanks
