Dear Hari Prasad,

Aren't festivals already listed on calendar? I have a couple of calendars here in UK, which shows all the festivals for the whole year, one till October this year (as that is when our Gujarati year ends) and another till 31st December. I can easily check on which date what festival falls. None of the festivals have ever come as surprise to me. When I lived in India, I still had such calendars. Not sure whether other parts of India has a different system.

So yes, I plan my festivals in advance, by making myself aware of them.

Kind Regards,

Hi All,

So far as I am aware, dates were advertised quite long ago and well before some of the communities started discussing it (some communities don't seem to have discussed) on their village pumps. If the dates were known already and we all plan our holidays and festivals little bit in advance, I am surprised to see this discussion revolving around dates and time at this stage.

Planning holidays is fine, but planning festivals in advance? Seriously?
