It's slightly tricky. Shrinivasan being a FOSS contributor himself has kindly released his software under a free license. But that software uses the API of Google's OCR and Google's OCR that is integrated into Google Drive is certainly proprietary. I'm not sure Shrini's tool can work for any FOSS OCR like Tesseract.
