Hello,
Wikimedia
Foundation 2021 Board of Trustees election is going on now, and votes
will be accepted until 1 September 2021, 5:29 am IST[1]. So, it is
around ~4 days to left. If you are interested you may consider
participating.
Please use your best understanding, and knowledge to vote for the candidates, if you wish to do so. This post is for information-purpose only.
+A Question
During
a general conversation with a Wikifriend, someone asked me a
question. I'll treat that question as "anonymous". The question is:
*
Why should someone vote in the board election process? How is it going
to affect my project such a a regional-language Wikisource, or
Wikivoyage, or a project without much support?
I
have my own view on why I should vote (or voted), very briefly— this is an
important process, and a trustee is a powerful and
decision-making position. Hence it is important to ensure the best
candidates are elected. Every well-thought vote helps in this process.
That's
my answer very briefly. I have rechecked the board election project
page, and the FAQ page, and I don't see this question is answered
directly (unless I missed something)
If
anyone from the board election organising team, the board/Community
Affairs Committee(CAC), or community wants to help, by answering this
question, kindly feel free to do so. I think it is OK, if someone does
not want to vote, or have their own reasons of not voting (feel free to
share your thoughts). The discussion possibly will help one (I believe
"many") Wikimedian(s) who are wondering "why should I vote?"
Footnotes
[1]
The voting ends on 31 August 2021, 23:59 UTC. In the India mailing
list, I have used Indian Standard Time, that's why it is 1 September
2021, 5:29 am IST.
