Ok then can we not make the default version the https one like say google does. If you type www.gmail.com, it directly redirects you to the secure server. I don't think there are any issues with that is there?

As most of these ads seem to be from www.inkfruit.com which is not a malware site, can we not contact them as if word gets out, it might be damaging to their reliability as a shopping site also. I only say this as the code doesn't seem to be available. As for the https solution, it might fix the problem for all of us but Wikipedia is not only about us, its about the millions of users who access it everyday for almost everything. I don't think that they will now or even bother to use https and am pretty sure they will think the ads are by Wikipedia.

I say this as when my friend saw the ad, he believed that Wikipedia had started it, and I clarified only when he told me, so this would do huge damage to the reputation of a free encyclopaedia even though it might not be our fault, esp since we have no way of clarifying to them about the injection by malware.

Sorry Srikeit!  I did assume it was Internet Explorer because I

apparently it does...

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9960350/inject-advertisements-in-pages

however they must be clearly marked.

"ads must be outside the page's normal flow and clearly state which
extension they are bundled with"

I think it would be useful to inform Google of this, as it breaks their policy.
