Digitised content would hold copyright for only that specific edition, layout and formatting as well as any graphics added in it which is not present in the original work. Content always remain free and in public domain after 60 years of death of the original author.

digitization does create copyright. Whatever mess they do, that belongs to them.
We need it for proper attribution.

The problem is severe in many historical/archaeological studies.

People do not agree on symbols from Harappan studies for example.
