Hi Bhuvana Ji,

It is really good to see this. Finally, my wish is coming true. Wikimedia is now participating in such programs. It is/will be really useful for Wikimedia to participate in such external events and conferences to get more technical developers in the Wikimedia technical community, especially in India.

Best of luck with this program. Hope to get more developers through this hackathon. Thanks to you and Srishti Ji.

Regards,

Jay Prakash

Hi everyone,

Greetings from the CityJS India!!

The CityJS India will be the first event in this World Online Series, and will be taking place online for the global community and also in person for the local community. The conference will last for 2 days, starting on the 18 and finishing on the 19 of February 2022. We will be covering a number of topics, such as TypeScript, React, Vue, Testing, Frameworks, IoT, NodeJS, Generic JavaScript, Machine Learning and other hot topics from our beloved JavaScript. Apart from speaker sessions we will also have paper presentations and a hackathon (a 48 hr hackathon) will be conducted on 11-13 March 2022.

As part of the CityJS India Hackathon we also have a Wikimedia Hackathon for beginners to take contribute to the Wikimedia technology  https://india.cityjsconf.org/hackathon

Step1 : Colleges need to nominate themselves and send an email to hackathon-india@cityjsconf.org with co-ordinator’s details(name, designation, college name, email and Mobile no) from their college. This person will act as our single point of contact for all further communication. This email must reach us before 15th Feb, if there is no SPOC contact then once can register as an individual but the mandatory criteria is that you must be a college student(from relevant technical background).
Step 2 : Registration for students from the college will be due by 28th February 2022. Registration link: https://forms.gle/aM9e8o3wGDnP8zpk8
Step 3 : Based on the available slots for the Wikimedia Hackathon we will select the students from each college based on diversity and domain interest (we have a max of 80 seats available for the Wikimedia track).

We will have a workshop conducted by User:SSethi (WMF)   who will brief through some interesting works around Wikimedia projects and allocate some tasks(bug fixes, small script writings in JS, etc) for the student developers which could be carried out during the 48 hour hackathon. We will also invite Wikimedians who are interested to volunteer to mentor the students and help them complete these tasks.

We will choose 3 final winners based on task completion and optimal delivery and the prize winners will receive excited gifts and the attendees will also receive the certificate of participation.

Regards,
Bhuvana Meenakshi
