University of Rhode Island students are using what they've learned and updating dozens of oceanography entries on Wikipedia.
Susanne Menden-Deuer, a professor at the university's Graduate School of Oceanography, said she's asked her students to identify a biological oceanography term or topic and improve the entry. She said students could also create a new Wikipedia entry for terms not yet included on the free online encyclopedia.
One student, Conor McManus of Milton, Mass., updated the Wikipedia page on stable isotope analysis in aquatic ecosystems.
He said he chose it because he had learned a little about it as an undergraduate and wanted to learn more.
