Dear Gerard,

I tried the beta and the advanced editing bar. It's definitely a better experience and is a step in the right direction. Keeping this minimal and optionally expandable interface, if you can add the more commonly used options of the wikEd plugin, this would become most useful.

I appreciate the immediate response from Veeven giving the code to include Telugu script. I'll see if I can get the Tamil script also similarly. While we are at it, it would be further useful to consider a javascript input method editor for Tamil as well. As one types the phonetic spelling or any other scheme, we should replace it with the corresponding unicode. There's a sample implementation at http://ta.wikipedia.org/wiki/பயனர்:Santhoshguru/தமிழில்_எழுத_உதவும்_செயலி If there's support, we can get any remnant issues in that fixed and add it to the betawiki.

Regards,
Sundar

Hoi,
The MediaWiki developers are working on the advanced toolbos that is part of the usability initiative. At the moment there is support for several scripts ... but not for any of the scripts used in the Indic languages. This is a good moment to consider how your scripts can be supported..

This is where you can find the scripts currently supported in the "special characters" part of the beta part of this wiki. You may have to create yourself a profile and enable the advanced toolbox in the user preferences. NB also vector is the skin of choice..

Good one. This would help to get special characters (or difficult-to-type chars) inserted very easily.

For Telugu (te), you can find the characters here: http://prototype.wikimedia.org/en.wikipedia.org/User:Veeven/Telugu_Characters

Or, you can find the exact piece of code (see the attached file) that can be inserted in the EditToolbar.js file.

I've included all characters. Probably, we can limit only to difficult ones.

Thanks,
Veeven.
