It is a joyous moment for us to inform you that the Wiki Loves Butterfly (WLB) team has become a witness of the first record of Neptis philyra butterfly from India. In India, a total number of 26 species of Neptiswere recorded previously. Four members of the WLB team –Atanu Bose,Mahesh Baruah,Abhishek Dutta ChaudhuryandAnitava Roy, captured photographs ofNeptis philyra(Long-streak Sailor) at theTale Valley Wildlife Sanctuaryin theLower Subansiri districtofArunachal Pradeshin the month of June 2023. The species was later identified byTarun Karmakar, an expert associated with our team, from the photographs. The first ever record of this species in India has been published as ascholarly articlein the scientific journal namedTropical Lepidoptera Researchon 5 April 2024.
