Dear All,

It almost took me quite sometime to go through the mailers above.

I honestly go by what Ashwin says. I pretty much understand that India, needs more local events to establish itself inside the country and then we can aim to bring in Wikimania's.

If I may make a suggestion, I would like to say that, in future, the events we organize can be aimed to conduct a Wikimania in India soil. Lets all together aspire to create events which will ultimately make us ready to organize a Wikimania in India.

I suggest we pitch in some SME (Subject Matter Experts) from different industries and try to involve them in working with wikipedia as editors. For E.g. we can have some one from IT companies to work on the technical content placed in Wikipedia.. similarly ppl from varied industries can involve themselves... we can also conduct local events centralized with the industries... by doing so, we get more volunteers to participate and help in team building :) in a year or two, this practice will make us sufficient enough to conduct Wikimania's

Lets make Wikimania as an ultimate destination to reach and the local events we organize (like GLAM, Workshops) etc can be minor milestones we wish to reach.

Regards,
Ade.

Thank you all for your responses.

Thanks Pradeep for telling us that the bid was a placeholder bid. I
was not aware of that. Placing the placeholder was indeed a good
action, though of course, it would have been better if wider publicity
of placeholder being placed were given.

I'm personally happy to see Mumbai opting to build up local community
activities which it missed out last year due to their full and
tremendous commitment to WikiConference 2011. Mumbai Community has
been doing great events and they have a wonderful line up including
GLAM.

I'm of the opinion that the Delhi bid be discarded prima facie and as
Mumbai has clarified its stance, Arjuna Rao Chawala, as Chapter head
may like to confirm India's non-participation in contesting for
hosting Wikimania 2013.

Of course, if there are dissenting opinions please pitch in right away
as it may seem that I'm trying to rush through with this issue, which
is not the case.

Warm regards,

Ashwin Baindur
