Tinu,

That would work, but depends upon how you wish to move (completely managed Vs just availing space and bandwidth, but server managed by chapter) to the foundation servers.  if chapter staff is going manage the installation (and not foundation), someone still needs to set it up correctly.

Hi Jyothis,
              AFAIK, this MW is privately hosted by a chapter exec com member on his personal webhosting, as of now. Enabling file uploading is costlier, hence probably.
              My suggestion is to move it to the Wikimedia servers ( like some other chapters), so that we needn't worry of server space, bandwidth & security ( at least until the chapter is rich enough to do so) ...

What is the problem in file uploads? Not enabled in LocalSettings.php again?

Who ever managing this MW installation might want to spend some time reading the Manual for MW. Here is how you enable File uploads. At the minimum, please read thru the LocalSettings.php to see what useful items can be enabled / ask others in mailing lists / IRC / use google.

## To enable image uploads, make sure the 'images' directory
## is writable, then set this to true:
$wgEnableUploads       = true;

Enabling the use of images on Commons is just a small configuration away. I am sure and know that there are competent people who can help you with that.

Enabling Commons images for a MediaWiki installation is very simple. I thought many in the list know about this. Malayalam wikimedians have implemented this feature in their community website (http://mlwiki.in/wiki/) sometime back.

To enable commons in our private wiki, just add the below code in the LocalSettings.php file

$wgUseInstantCommons = true;

This feature is called InstantCommons, and many of us are using it. See more details at

Thank you, Sue.
Once the technical issue of file upload (pointed out by Tinu) is resolved by
moving to Wikimedia servers, we'll certainly add mugshots of the EC members.
