waiting to be completed. At another level, Prof Delfim Correia was searching

Dear all ,
I have been working quite some time to scrap data from Digital dictionaries
of South Asia . <http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/>
Quite an amount of success has been achieved

I use a python program using Beautiful soup , scrap the data from the site
using a simple crawler and take out the output in a text file which can be
hacked around and output tweeked according to our needs . Though I have
written the program , a lot help has been got from infofarme

Tamil Development and Information Department of Government of Tamil Nadu
has issued a Government Order (Number: 105, Date: 01. 07. 2016) to Tamil
University, Thanjavur and all other government departments and institutions
to release all their publications, archives and collections under Creative
Commons by Share-Alike license.
This Government Order has got the approval from the TN Government's Legal
Department and issued by the order of Governor of Tamil Nadu. The order can
be seen here

We have asked for a copy of this order in English.
This order comes as part of the public policy initiatives undertaken
through the collaboration between Global Tamil Wikimedia Community and

The community recognizes this as a significant milestone in spreading free
knowledge for the benefit of Tamils. We also hope that this sets a good
precedent for all government institutions across the country. We thank the
Government of Tamil Nadu, former director of TVA Mr. T. Udhayachandran I.

As you all remain aware the world's biggest sporting event 'The Olympics'
is set to knock the door, this August. At present, 111 athletes from India
have qualified, the largest ever contingent. More than 311 National
Coaching Camps have been held across India as a part of their
pre-tournament preparation. To celebrate this sporting festival we at
Wikimedia India have decided to promote a virtual-edit-a-ton.
During the primary research, It was observed that a lot many areas on
Indian Sports and 'India at Olympics' for which no article exist. Even if
they do, there presence on Indian languages remain negligible. Considering
this event would be in progression soon, we have decided to promote this

although this is still in the development stage.
While working on Olympics we have made attempts to promote virtual
edit-a-ton on a different theme altogether, we also decided to make the
awards different. For every 15 good articles created by an editor,
Wikimedia India would be planting trees on their behalf in their name
symbolising '*Wikipedia* *India Supports India at Olympics, tree planted by
Wikipedian......*'. Considering tree plantation involves significant time
and human labour, we have partnered with a tree plantation organisation
SankalpTaru <https://www.sankalptaru.org/>. They would be our sponsors for
this event. Pomegranate trees in Barmer, Thar Desert Rajasthan would be
planted. These trees will be planted on a rural farmer's land who would
further nurture these trees under the supervision of SankalpTaru. Once the
harvest starts, the local inhabitants would start earning livelihood by
selling fruits (based on the consent of Wikipedia who is awarded the
respective tree). A virtual forest could also be monitored online here.

We are happy to share the newsletter for July. This includes updates from the work we are associated with, and updates about the Rio Olympics edit-a-thon that is being organised by our friends from Wikimedia India.
Open source effort gives indigenous language an official typeface
Santali, an aboriginal South Asian language, has a brand new freely licensed font and set of cross-platform open source input tools on the way. The typeface family was designed by type designer Pooja Saxena (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Anexasajoop) and went through several rounds of review by language experts. However, the typeface (https://github.com/anexasajoop/olchiki-fontfamily) is still one step away from reality. Because of this, two input methods (https://github.com/GuruGomke/ol-chiki) will be made available along with the typeface; Sarjom Baha (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:UniversalLanguageSelector/Inp…) , a phonetic input method so that every common user can easily type the they pronounce the words, and InScript (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ol_Chiki_InScript_keyboard_layout.s…) , a keyboard layout standard for Indian scripts. Even though the original plan was to create a editor community to contribute to
the Santali Wikipedia (https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/sat/Main_Page) and bring it live from Incubator, outputs will just be distributed for the users to use them.
Update: The input methods (https://github.com/wikimedia/jquery.ime/tree/master/rules/sat) are now up on all the Wikimedia projects as part of the Universal Language Selector (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Universal_Language_Selector) .

We have been working with the Department of State Educational Research and Training of Karnataka (DSERT), a Government of Karnataka-run research and training institution headquartered in Bengaluru. With the hope of expanding the reach of Science-related content in Kannada Wikipedia, we organised an edit-a-thon spanning over three days from the 11th January through the 13th.

Raju Suthar is one of the most active Wikipedians on the Hindi Wikipedia.
He started editing in January 2015 & with help from senior Hindi
wikipedians, within 2 months he reached an edit count of 3,000.Currently he
has an edit count of 6,500+ with almost 750 articles created to his name.
The real story behind this truly inspiring Wikipedian lies in his humble
background. Rarely having any access to a laptop, almost all of his edits
have been done through a mobile phone ([

Editing on his phone whenever he gets time,raju while sharing his
experience has confessed that editing through a mobile phone was very
difficult, due to which he regrets that the contributions which he has made
to Wikipedia is not enough and wants to do more for the community & his
language. With Hindi having one of the lowest Editors per million speakers,
Raju says that Hindi Wikipedia is not growing as fast as some of the other
Indic Languages, due to which his primary aim is to see that the community
grows to its full Potential. He likes writing articles on Topics related to
Cricket, his home state of Rajasthan & its history.

Wiki Loves Butterfly (WLB) <

July, the WLB team is going to start its second phase of pictorial
documentation (Field work) of the available seasonal species and variety of
butterflies along with their behavioral pattern in Jayanti, Alipurduar,
North Bengal.India. Currently, the team is developing articles(in Bengali
Language) about the butterflies found in the first phase. There are total
25 articles in Bengali developed in 3 months time where three of the users
are new. Total number of images contributed in commons is 377 till date.

This year, a few Wikimedians from Puri are documenting the process of
building the ratha (chariot) making . They are also uploading every phase
of the building process on Wikimedia Common. Many of the images have been

সদস্যগন আনন্দের সহিত জানাচ্ছি যে বিগত কয়েক মাসে দুটি পর্যায়ে প্রজাপতির
উপর কাজের সাড়া পেয়েছি এবং পরবর্তী ৬ মাসের শেষ দুটি পর্যায়ে আরো ভালো কাজ
করার জন্য প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ।
এই প্রকল্পটি উইকিপিডিয়ার সমস্ত ভাষা সম্পাদনা বিভাগ, কমনস এবং বিশেষতঃ
উইকিস্পিসিস-এর সাথে সম্পূর্নরূপে সম্পর্কিত। এই প্রকল্পটির মূল লক্ষ্য
পশ্চিমবঙ্গে প্রাপ্ত বিভিন্ন প্রজাপতি প্রজাতি, তাদের জীবন চক্র, বাসস্থান,
অভ্যাস ইত্যাদি বিষয়ে পুঙ্খানুপুঙ্খ আলোকচিত্রন ( উইকিপিডিয়া কমনসের ফ্রি
লাইসেন্সের নিয়ম অনুসারে) ও তথ্য সংগ্রহের মাধ্যমে তথ্য ভান্ডারকে আরো সমৃদ্ধ
করা এবং পশ্চিমবঙ্গে প্রাপ্ত বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির প্রজাপতির বিষয়ে আরো বেশী
সংখ্যায় ও উন্নতমানের লেখালেখির দ্বারা বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়াকে সমৃদ্ধ করে তোলা।
উইকি লাভস বাটারফ্লাই একটি Out-reach প্রকল্প যার অপর লক্ষ্য হল পশ্চিমবঙ্গে
যে সকল ব্যাক্তি অথবা গোষ্ঠী বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির প্রজাপতির বিষয়ে তথ্য এবং
চিত্র নিয়ে কাজ করছেন অথবা এই বিষয়ে আগ্রহী রয়েছেন, তাদের সকলকে
উইকিপিডিয়ার বৃহত্তর পরিবারে সামিল করে তাদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহনের মাধ্যমে
উইকিপিডিয়ার জ্ঞান-দিগন্ত প্রসারিত করা।

In connection with the previously discussed *Wiki Loves Butterfly*(WLB)
project, we the members of WLB most cordially informs that during last some
months in the two phases of activities on butterflies we have got nice
response and we are dedicated to do better and more effectively in the
subsequently two phases.

all the languages editors, commons and specially Wiki species. The main
objectives of this project is to photograph in details regarding the life
cycle, habitats and behavioural activities of different species of
butterfly found in West Bengal as well as to enrich the fund of
documentation of Wikimedia with the help of collected documentations. More
over, the project aims at enriching Bengali Wikipedia by better and large
number of articles regarding those butterfly species. WLB is an outreach
project the other objective of which is to assimilate all the people and
communities who are working with documentation and photographs and research
on butterflies available in West Bengal, in the bigger family of Wiki and
to extends and enhance the horizon of knowledge of Wikipedia by their
active participation.
We invite all your active co-operation and sincere opinion regarding this
work based on species. So please do incorporate your opinion in discussion
page. Moreover we request those who are interested to create and develop
articles on the butterfly and other species found and documented in our
project to come ahead and join hands in enriching Bengali and other
