Hello Everyone,
Two days ago I received a mail from nabble team stating "removal of
subscription to WikiMedia India".
I recalled back all events happening over the mailing list to find out any
reason or instance of clicking the "unsubscribe" link, checked and
rechecked for the same but could not find any solid robust reason to do so.
As in for now I'm able to receive & reply the mails, but still very curious
about this particular "un-subscription" mail landing into my inbox out of
nowhere.
Curious to know about the administrative/moderation rights regarding
removal/un-subscribing of member from a list, or any similar instance
happening.
The related mail is being forwarded for reference.
Hope this mail is not referred as an act of aggression or an offence
pointing towards a person or an entity.
Regards & Thanks,

FYI,
Wikimedia Ukraine is initiating a new photo contest – “Wiki Loves Earth”,
its goal being collecting pictures of Ukraine Natural Heritage sites and
Landscape and Ornamental Gardening objects for illustrating articles in the
worldwide free Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia.
Everybody can take part in the competition. A registration on Wikimedia
Commons (one of many Wikipedia sister projects) is required. You are to
find in the list of natural heritage objects the ones you know of, take a
picture of them yourself (it could be done anytime, previously or starting
now) and upload them to Commons (during April 15 – May 15, 2013). The
authors of the best pictures will be awarded with prizes. The results
announcement and the awarding ceremony will be held in Kyiv, on June 5,
2013, on the World Environment Day.
The Organizational Committee has already started preparation work on the
competition list, and almost 8 000 of entries are to be included there.
Nature reserves, landscape parks, protected areas, natural heritage sites,
botanical (dendrological), zoological gardens and parks, and ornamenting
gardening objects will be in the list.
Yuri Perohanych, Wikimedia Ukraine Executive Director, said that this photo
contest will draw the society’s attention to the existing problems of
Ukraine natural heritage protection, and the contest itself is to show the
perspectives of green/eco tourism in Ukraine.
As Yevhen Buket, the contest coordinator, pointed out, the idea to initiate
such a competition has arisen after conducting a successful international
photo contest Wiki Loves Monuments in Ukraine this September. The goal of
the contest was collecting pictures of cultural heritage monuments of
Ukraine.
Wikimedia Ukraine invited Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of
Ukraine, environmental organizations, as well as donors and sponsors, to
help with the organization of the competition and contribute to the contest
prize fund.

Dear Friends,
@Abhijith - Thank you for succinctly sharing the key points of our meeting.
It was amazing to see the energy all of you guys and gals have. It was a
very useful discussion we had. We will surely ensure that we meet these
plans one by one.
To give an update... We have been successful in getting an institutional
partner English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) to schedule an
outreach event in March 2013. This will be a focussed training workshop for
Researchers working/using Telugu material as part of their research. Telugu
Wikipedians Dr. Rajashekar, Rahim and Veeven will be conducting the
training. Our objective is to explore a long term and sustained
relationship with the researchers (potential wikipedians) at EFLU.
Thanks to CIS-A2K adviser Dr. Niranajana for providing this lead.
More updates on this anon.
Best wishes,
Vishnu

A survey on donation process is being conducted by WMF between 11th March
2013 and 13th March 2013 at Bangalore.
They want to understand the perception of potential donors to the message,
layout, language, and mechanism used for the global fundraiser program.
Apart from some donors, they wish to meet some community members too.
Apparently there is a high failure rate in the online donation process from
India and they would like to understand this first hand, while the fund
raising is on, and as people go through the donation process. This would
be a qualitative survey, with a one on one discussion and observation.
Those of you in Bangalore and willing to spend some time giving this
qualitative survey feedback can indicate when you can meet her during these
days.
Thanks.
