"This week, we shine the spotlight on the Indian Cinema Task Force, a
subproject that seeks to improve the quality and quantity of articles
about Indian cinema. As a child of WikiProject Film and WikiProject
India, the Indian Cinema Task Force shares a variety of templates,
resources, and members with its parent projects. The task force works on
a to-do list, maintains the Bollywood Portal, and ensures articles
follow the film style guidelines. With Indian cinema celebrating its
100th year of existence in 2013, we asked Karthik Nadar (Karthikndr),
Secret of success, Ankit Bhatt, Dwaipayan, and AnimeshKulkarni what is
in store for the Indian Cinema Task Force....."
I also saw in that page's "News In Brief" section: "WikiProject India is
looking for a new coordinator for the project's Collaborations of the
Month" so feel free to spread the word!

I'm putting together a timeline of women's and transwomen's roles in the
movement or subjects on Wikipedia. I'd like to have your input on the
- Women who have been involved in the founding of a chapter or
organization related to Wikimedia projects
- First women of Wikimedia projects - women who played pioneering or
important roles in Wikimedia projects as say, the first woman.
- Do you know the first article or content in your project that was
related to a woman? Or perhaps the first Featured Article in your Wikipedia
that was a biography about a woman (or the like).
I understand that not all women want to be associated as pertinent figures
in the movement based on gender!
I'd appreciate any insight and media (images released CC BY A or PD
preferably) related to this "history".
Please email me OFFLIST.

Subject: Meeting to plan wiki workshop for women - Sunday 16 Sept
To: Mumbai List Wikimedia <wikimedia-in-mum(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Sorry for the short notice, but was trying to get enough women editors from
Mumbai involved and find a venue - both are on track now, so this can
Am writing to invite the Mumbai wp community to an informal meeting Sunday
16 Sept to plan a wiki academy or workshop for women in Mumbai.
Here is where I am coming from: In my day job, I run a non-profit called Point
of View <http://www.pointofview.org>, which promotes the points of view of
women through media, art and culture. In this capacity and others, I
routinely come across women, including other NGOs working with women, and
with women bloggers and others active on social media. Many of them have
expressed a tentative interest in editing wikipedia, but are stuck at this
place. Pranav and I visited one such org in Mumbai earlier this year, but
it's too time-consuming going org by org.
Instead, I propose that we start with an introductory workshop for
interested individuals/organizations and then perhaps follow up with those
who are more interested...hoping to do the introductory workshop sometime
in November. And hoping that each of you can similarly invite interested
women to the Nov workshop.
This is a working meeting devoted to planning this workshop. If you would
like to be part of it and help reduce the gender gap at wikipedia, please
The meeting will be held at 4 pm on Sunday 16 Sept at Pinstorm's office
(many thanks, Netra for offering us this facility).

In past couple of weeks somehow I came in touch with few guys (SEO,
Application developers, Bloggers etc) who desperately wanted an article for
themselves or their company on English Wikipedia. I understand their need
for advertisement, but somehow few of them just can't be convinced that WP
is not the place for advertisements. In this recent quest I got to know few
astonishing things. Firstly, there are companies in market who actually
claim to WRITE articles for them on WP and take money for it. Second,
People actually do PAY for this. If the article gets deleted then in some
cases these companies give customers money back stating some crappy reason,
and not clearly saying that why and how did it get removed from Wikipedia.
Getting more into this I also came to know about a company which claims to
build sources and reference for you which can support your article, I don't
know how, but it does at least claim so.
I am sure other community members might have sometimes faced this and some
of them might know something more about it. Care to share your word please?

Wikipedia is well explained in today's Prajavani weekly special edition
'KamanaBillu". The article passes the Kannada community message to
Kannadiga's to join hands in building Kannada Wikipedia while explaining
how some of its contributors share the common goal and interests to work
around it. Soorya Vajrangi, the reporter from Prajavani has done a
wonderful job narrating how Wikipedia works and how some one can easily
become an editor. Looking forward to see many more new editors on Kannada
