Wikimedia Community Ireland Newsletter – June 2018

Sybil at The Hunt Museum

Wikipedia editing workshops were held at the Hunt Museum across three days from 17-19 May. These events were held to celebrate the Hunt Museum becoming the first Irish cultural institutions to donate images directly to Wikimedia Commons. Some of these images have been uploaded to the article on Sybil Connolly, and a short write up can be found on the Irish report for This Month in GLAM.

Editing events in TOG Hackerspace

We will be continuing our monthly editing events in TOG Hackerspace on Wednesday 27 June from 7-9pm. Whether you are new to Wikipedia or an old hand at editing, come along for a chat with fellow Wikimedians! All you need is a laptop, WiFi and pizza will be provided!

We will also be taking part in the TOG Finishathon/Hackathon on Saturday 23 June, where amongst other person projects our Project Coordinator will be doing some Wikipedia editing!

To get a reminder about this and other upcoming event sign up on the TOG Meetup page, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter.

Wiki Loves Pride

June sees the beginning of Pride celebrations in Ireland, with the Dublin Pride parade taking place on 30 June. Our Project Coordinator will be there taking photos for Wikimedia Commons as she did last year, why not join her and help document it for the world? You can find last year's images here, and this year's will be uploaded to this category.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2018

There has been lots of work going on in the past few months to increase and diversify the listed structures in Ireland eligible for the competition in September. We will be announcing the new list along with a map to help you find your local heritage gems that could win you prizes! What this space!

Getting Involved!

Is there an event you think Wikimedia Community Ireland should get involved in, or should look at organising? Do you have idea for an event or campaign you'd like to work on with us? Or have any other good ideas, then get in touch, we'd love to hear from you!
