A Chairde,
We’re thrilled to share our Strategic Plan for 2025 – 2030, which we
discussed and refined together as a community and finally voted into action
at our community meeting last Tuesday.
Thank you very much to everyone who gave valuable feedback.
*The Wikimedia Community Ireland Strategic Plan is openly accessible to
read on Wikimedia Commons. You can view the full strategic plan for
2025-2030 here
<https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e4/Wikimedia_Community_Ire…>.
*
The plan will serve as a roadmap for our continued commitment to open
knowledge and community.
As we look forward to the next five years, we are wholeheartedly committed
to our ongoing programmatic goals of enhancing and promoting content
related to Irish heritage in all forms on Wikipedia and Vicipéid and
promoting knowledge equity. We will continue to work in partnership with
cultural heritage organisations, education institutions, research bodies
and our European partners, particularly in the area of minority language
preservation and digital activism.
Beannachtaí,

*World Environment Day is fast approaching! We are calling upon our
community to help build up and add to the information about climate change,
the environment and Ireland’s natural heritage on Wikipedia, the world’s
digital encyclopedia and Vicipéid. *
Each month, we will be hosting an online *Meitheal*
<https://wikimedia.ie/2025/03/06/tionscadal-nua-meitheal-nua-ceardlann-meith…>
or* community editing event* in English and Irish to improve content
related to a different theme. Then at our Community meetings, we can
celebrate how much we accomplished together, share any challenges or new
snippets of knowledge we came across while editing! We will also be able to
help each other out and share skills.
You can find this month’s task list here
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16r-LHcmDM2m9qrV-4xg54t1vkrm3J3SL967…>.
It has pages that need more content in both languages, and also red links,
or pages that are missing from Wikipedia.
These articles present opportunities for contributors to enhance
Wikipedia’s coverage of Ireland’s environmental landscape by adding
detailed information, reliable sources, and relevant images. If you’re
interested in contributing, consider exploring these topics further and
enriching the content for the benefit of all readers. You can also
contribute to the monthly MeithealWiki by adding images (don’t forget to
enter the Wiki Loves Earth photo contest
<https://wikimedia.ie/2025/05/01/the-wiki-loves-earth-2025-photo-contest-ope…>
if
you do!), fixing typos, adding references and citations, anything you have
time to do is valid and helpful!
June’s Theme is Wiki Loves Earth
Participating in *Wiki Loves Earth* is a wonderful way to contribute to the
documentation and appreciation of Ireland’s natural heritage. Building upon
the previous list, here are additional Wikipedia articles related to Irish
natural heritage, protected landscapes, geoparks, biodiversity, climate
activism, and environmental science that are either stubs needing
expansion, lack citations, or could benefit from additional images.
How to get involved:
1. Register with your Wikipedia username on the Dashboard here.

2. Add your name to the task list beside the article you plan to edit or

Hope you can get involved!
Kind regards,
Sophie
