Hi,
Wikimedia Deutschland's annual report for the year 2008 is now available for download at
http://wikimedia.de/fileadmin/wiki/images/Downloads/Taetigkeitsbericht_2008.pdf. There's at the moment only a German version. So far, we have not considered producing an English version because we're unsure about demand.
Some of the highlights from the report:
* we relaunched the school project to promote media literacy in education and started "Generation 50plus" as an outreach program for older generations
* at the "YOU 2008" youth fair, we presented Wikipedia and explained how to properly use its contents
* in cooperation with Wissen Media Verlag, a publishing house, a one volume edition of the most popular Wikipedia articles was published in print and sold in bookstores
* a cooperation with the German federal archive resulted in over 100,000 images being published on Commons under a free license
* through the Zedler award, co-sponsored by the renowned publisher "Spektrum der Wissenschaft" and the "Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur", we recognized two outstanding scientific articles written for Wikipedia
* Wikipedia Academy in Berlin strengthened relationships between the chapter, the community, and academia
* flagged revisions, a collaboration between Wikimedia Deutschland, Wikimédia France, and the Wikimedia Foundation, went live on German Wikipedia helping advance the quality of the content
* we supported active contributors to the Wikimedia projects through book stipends, a digitalization budget, and financial assistance for community events
* we invested heavily in the Toolserver cluster to improve reliability and stability of many tools used within Wikipedia and Commons
* total membership went up by about 19% (466), total revenues (including donations) went up by about 40% (total €368.875,57)
You can find further details about these topics and much more in the report. We also have printed copies which we'll ready send out to whoever requests one (send an e-mail to
info@wikimedia.de).
Best regards,
Sebastian Moleski
President
