I have a dentist appointment at 11:30 this morning, which makes me more
conscious of the mortality/death thing than usual. It is also a year
since Terri Schiavo died, so I am trying to write a living will and make
sure my family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances know how much they
mean to me.
Now in terms of Wikimedia Australia:
How strong are the procedures in place when a member dies or is
incapcitated?
I know there is a line in our constitution, but if one of our members
was gravely ill.
Technically we're not incorporated yet, of course.
Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation meant and still mean a great deal
to me.
I do hope it will just be a checkup but as of last Saturday (the 25th
March) I have a wisdom tooth between two back teeth and it has been in
my jaw but not in my gum - until now. I will possibly have to have the
other two removed. One of them is kept in place by a filling, and the
other is just very big! I know modern dentistry is very good and kind
and gentle, but one does have to keep these things in the back of one's
mind. What if there were an adverse outcome to any of the members? I
have not had a great deal of toothache over the last week but a great
deal of gum ache and that puts pictures in my imagination.
Thank you very much,
Bronwyn

OK, let's get the ball rolling. I'm serious when I say I hate wiki
pages for this kind of discussion.
Q1. Is it desirable for us to be incorporated?
Q2. Is it necessary for us to be incorporated?
Q3. If not incorporated, then what?
Q4. Is the state of incorporation important?
Q5. Could someone ring up an ATO helpline and get some ideas about a
good structure for us, please? (this is a request, not a question :))
A1. Yes, looks more professional, it's appropriate for a formal branch
of the WMFoundation.
A2. ...
A3. ...
A4. I tend to think no, and I agree with this comment made by
203.102.161.75: "Incorporate in whichever state provides the best
financial grounds for incorporation, and operate out of the state
which provides the most manpower." This is something we could ask the
tax office about (they might discourage it, but I'm sure they will say
whether or not it's actually legal).
cheers,
Brianna
