Hi all,
Sharing below additional resources from our WikiWednesday Digital Safety training last week for those who weren't able to attend. These contain some first steps around threat modeling, baseline steps, and incident response:
- The entire surveillance self defense guide https://ssd.eff.org/ is a great resource, and the section on threat modeling https://ssd.eff.org/module/your-security-plan and building a security plan in particular is a helpful place to start. - Security Planner https://securityplanner.consumerreports.org/ from Consumer Reports. - For organizations, Ford Foundation's cybersecurity assessment tool https://cybercat.tools/#assessment is a great place to start to assess risk and build out a more formal plan. - The Digital First Aid kit https://digitalfirstaid.org/ is a great resource for common issues. - The Global Cyber Alliance's journalists toolkit https://gcatoolkit.org/journalists/. - Trusted helplines include the Access Now Helpline, that can assist if you run into particular issues and need some technical guidance and support.
In addition, the Wikimedia Foundation's Meta page has a section https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Human_Rights_Team/Digital_Security_Resources that includes a list of resources on a number of topics. Please also see this learn.wiki module https://learn.wiki/courses/course-v1:Wikimedia-Foundation+WMF_HUM001+2022/about which includes a question based digital security risks self-assessment.
Again, please reach out to us at Wikimedia NYC and/or the Wikimedia Foundation (talktohumanrights@wikimedia.org) if you experience any issues around doxing and digital harassment.
Happy reading, Pacita
