Dear Wiki-Yorkers,

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Kundiman and Wikimedia NYC are teaming up for another weeklong Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon focusing on Asian American literature. Since 2018, Kundiman and Wikimedia NYC and DC have partnered to address the erasure of Asian American writers online. With the help of our communities, we have collectively added over 80,000 words on Asian American literature to Wikipedia. Though Wikipedia is a widely-used global resource, the second most popular website in the U.S., it is predominantly edited by white men, and that imbalance shows in its expertise. Creating and adding to articles on Wikipedia is a way for the community to come together to demonstrate literary activism and to increase the visibility of Asian American writers online.

There is no experience required, and Wikipedia newbies are encouraged! We will offer three free online trainings via Zoom throughout the week. Join us at any time to pitch in during #KundimanWikiWeek!
