(User:Pharos)RichardWikimedia NYC tried an idea like this in the past, the grandly named "Wiki World's Fair / Free Culture Festival", as an adjunct to Wikimania 2012, on Governors Island, with the help of FIGMENT, and many bamboo poles:

Been thinking about this, too. I spoke with some folks after Techno Activism 3rd Monday yesterday and there was an idea of organizing a free culture/techno activism/Wikipedia festival/series of events on Governor's Island. This might be a great way of broadening the demographic of people who are exposed to the issues we're all involved in, especially because we're reframing them as social justice ones.--

I'm hoping to have a blog post up in the next day or two encouraging people to set up local social events and chapters for the 10th anniversary of the org.
Does anyone else have additional ideas?
