Hi everybody,
I’ve drafted a message [1] we could send to every Wikipedia user who has ever signed up on our user group page. Please have a look at this message, edit it with any improvements, and let me know if it looks good to you! I’m hoping to send it out by Tuesday, but if enough people review it by tomorrow we could send it out tomorrow night itself. As far as I know, nobody in our group has the massmessage user right, so we’ll need to ask an Administrator to send it for us — but that also means another pair of eyes to make sure we didn’t mess something up, so that’s nice. I wanted to keep the message short, but we might want to include a sentence telling people about this new distribution list as well — what do you think?
To do this, I created a Global Message delivery list for our group [2] that includes every username listed on our Participants and Supporters list [3]. There are a few other places we could use to add usernames to this list: - People who have attended events in North Carolina [4] - People who have listed an interest in local WikiProjects, such as WikiProject North Carolina [5] or WikiProject Durham [6]
Do you think we should add those users to our distribution list before sending out this global message? I think so, but I’m happy to wait until our next monthly meeting (Tues, July 8) and discuss this in person before making that change.
cheers, Gaurav

Gaurav,
I think it is reasonable to send announcements to all the people that have expressed interest in our regional events.
Thanks, Frank

Hi everybody,
Thanks to everybody who reviewed the message draft! I spend a couple of days (and a couple of movies!) going through the list of every North Carolina Wikipedia meetup and making a list of everybody who’s ever attended them and that’s… a lot of people [1]. It also goes back all the way to 2010, so there’s probably a lot of users in there who are no longer in North Carolina.
Some caveats about this list: - I couldn’t figure out how to export user lists from the Outreach Dashboard, so those aren’t included. - A bunch of events used other websites to manage attendee information, so I couldn’t include those. - I did a lot of this manually or semi-manually, so users might easily have been missed — anyone who wrote their username without adding `User:` or `[[User:` before it, for instance. - I assumed that every user I found primarily uses the English Wikipedia, and so the messages will go to their user talk page there. This is probably true for events hosted on the English Wikipedia, but might not be true for events on meta.wikimedia.org http://meta.wikimedia.org/.
I propose we send this announcement only to people in the "Users from” section of this page, and not to the "Users from individual events” section. We can then potentially send out another message to _everybody_ later — maybe more of a general “Greetings from the North Carolina Wikipedians!” message. What do y’all think? Here’s the proposed message for next week’s WikiCurious event [2] in case anybody would like to review it again!
cheers, Gaurav

Thanks so much for creating these outreach lists and promoting the event, Guarav! Excited for the opportunity for more folks to get involved.
We'd also be incredibly appreciative if any of you would like to share the event on social media. We've posted on most of our platforms, so you can just reshare:

Hi everybody,
Thanks to a lot of help from Pharos, I’ve sent out our draft message [1] to everybody on our delivery list [2] via MassMessage, both the general ones as well as the event-specific list — thanks so much, Pharos! Please let me know if you notice anything wrong about the MassMessage or anything we could do better next time around.
cheers, Gaurav
