Dear TN Wikimedians,

Although, the initiative of organising a belated event is a very good idea but I agree with Houssem on the lack of communication about it. As group members, we shouldn't be surprised by the event on social  media. Now, about our participation in WLM, I think it came too late; unfortunately, by no mean we can be included in the international competition now. It's not only a matter of Jury members neither prizes.

The event could have a theme WLM but with a precision that it is not part of the photo contest, or you could say it's a national competition only

I hope in the future, this type of late/miscommunication doesn't happen again so none would feel frustrated.

Good luck to the event organisers.

Regards,
Emna

Hi all,

At first I want to apologize for the lack of communication. I didn't find the time to send an email to inform you of the event that we decided to launch it the day before yesterday.

Me and Hamed wanted to organize a bigger event but we didn't find funds, and we realized that we can no longer apply for a grant. We spoke to Yamen who told us to go on and he will find a solution for the prizes. Then, we didn't find time to organize something so we decided the day before yesterday, unexpectedly and spontaneously, to organize a photo tour in the Medina(Late better than never).

To be honest, I was a little shocked by some words used in Houssem's email and I felt for once that I am in a court, I'm doing all this voluntarily, despite the health problems that I have and the other activities that I have to do.

I apologize again for the lack of communication.

Regards,
Afek

Hi everyone,

I agree with Yamen and will not complain that someone takes free time to organize a photo tour in the medina with Jamel. This is indeed an already well covered area even though 9 monuments in Tunis (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_des_monuments_classés_du_gouvernorat_de_Tunis, most in the medina if I am not wrong) do not have any picture yet and others only have a few. If possible, I would focus the tour on some of them rather than well covered places (unless we can access some hidden/unphotographed areas there).

I think though Houssem is rightly commenting about communication around this event. If someone in this group is organizing anything anywhere, especially under the umbrella of WMTN, I think this is legitimate this list is at least notified, if no support is needed, or consulted upfront to get ideas and support. If people within the group are taken by surprise, imagine the situation for our audience who were told for weeks that Tunisia do not participate to WLM this year (still the case on Commons), then to be told differently few days before the end of the contest. The goal is also to share tasks so to avoid one individual has to take care of everything. If anyone does not feel comfortable to share their projects here, please speak out so we can improve as a group. I am also more than happy to provide support and share tips in terms of event planning if needed.

This being said, can we confirm if we truly speak about a contest or just a photo tour? Keep in mind a contest requires a jury and prizes for participants. Last year, the group was in an uncomfortable situation where people were invited to submit pictures for a contest, then did not receive prizes and complained publicly. We must not fall into the same trap again. The FB event that I think Houssem refers to speaks about a contest so further steps before/after the tour must be done. If the organizer of the tour can confirm, that would be great so we ensure communication does not leave room for interpretation and support can be provided in any needed area.

Mourad

Hi again,

I personally could be very happy if I was informed before that the contest is happening.

I could help of course if I had the space to share my ideas or something else, but not now as everything is set.

Also fun fact, I don't even know who is the organizer so that I can reach out to them and see how I can help if I want to.

And regarding the walk: Tunis has a lot of sites that are worth a photography walk and are accessible. It's not a matter of budget. I don't see the point of having 100 photos on commons of the same patios/doors/streets of the medina of Tunis.

Thanks,
Houssem

Hi Houssem,

I don't think this is a mistake. No one proposed to organise WikiLovesMonuments this year and even if nothing has been posted in the mailing list we should be happy that at least someone is taking care of this at this late stage of the month.

As we say better late than never, personally I don't consider it as a mistake but I'm thankful for who is behind that for giving from their time to take care of this.

And due to the short time remaining in the competition and without funding it's not obvious to organise something more complicated but if you can help to improve this then don't hesitate to help them please.

Thanks
Yamen

Hi all,

I crossed today accidently a post through which I discovered our UG is organizing WLM this year.

I am a bit surprised why this was not discussed before or shared. We are still doing the same mistakes even after aknowledging them :(

I personally think we could pick a better place for the photographt walk. The medina of Tunis has a lot of photos on commons, and it could be more useful to cover a new less known site..

Good luck for the tour this week-end.

Houssem
