Hi everyone!
May meetup Thank you for joining us at the May meetup! I counted 25 participants, including quite a few new faces. As usual, you can find some notes here: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/bawug. We've also sorted out the integration of Events invitation and outreach dashboards for the Rapid Grant report, and you can find our edits overview here: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/campaigns/bay_area_wikipedians_2025202...
We had a great time hearing about Open Street Maps and understanding where bridges and overlaps may be found. On their recommendation, we reached out to SF Civic Tech, to extend an invitation to our wiki tech coworking table.
Next meetups You can find the details of the next meetup on June 12 (in person and online as always) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event:Bay_Area_Meetup_June_2025.
Rosiestep has agreed to do a short presentation of the Women in Red project, which Elan will follow with a presentation of wikidata for improving inclusivity on the encyclopedia. Do please invite your friends who might be interested in those topics! This will be followed by pizza and the usual coworking tables or socialization time - more details at the link.
In July, we will be meeting on the 10th (a Saturday) for a Wiknic potluck. For various logistical reasons, we will also host it at Double Union - our plan is to reserve the space in front of the building to allow for a bigger group and enjoy the sun. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event:Bay_Area_Wiknic_2025. This is open to the general public and will include crafts, a screenprinting station, and probably a wiki games station. Please share!
User Group BureaucracyIn anticipation of reapplying for recognition by the affiliations committee, we need an election process in place for organizers. Your current organizers (@e_mln_e, @elanHR, @audiodude) will present a proposal for membership and voting process for discussion at the next meetup. It'll also be posted on the group Meta Discussion page no less than two weeks before the meetup. If you'd like to be involved in drafting the proposal, please reach out! There'll also be time to comment and propose changes at the June meetup, and if necessary, until the August meetup. It'd be great to have it finalize by then so we can hopefully secure confirmed status before the next grant cycle.
Other newsThe proposal for the North America Hub is going forward, and you can learn about the grant proposal to support its creation here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants_talk:Programs/Hub_Fund/North_American...
The San Francisco French Alliance reached out regarding potential co-hosted events in non-English languages. They organize a variety of [language exchange events](https://www.instagram.com/afsanfrancisco/p/DIh2WC7PYVn/). Emeline will meet with them next week to learn more and report at the June Meetup.
The first event for the partnership with the SF historical society has been pushed to mid-August due to delayed works at their office. Exact date TBD.
Cheers, EET
