I missed last year, but the first year was really fun to do. People
were really excited to talk with the volunteers. Many had questions,
and quite a number just wanted to tell you how much they loved
Wikipedia.
It made me want to put together something like a photobooth, where
people could go in and say what they loved about Wikipedia. We'd
collect the videos and put them on line, so that volunteers everywhere
could see the immense positive impact they're having on the lives of
real people.
It might also be good to make some "I donated to Wikipedia" and "I've
edited Wikipedia" stickers. Like the "I voted" or "I gave blood today"
stickers, it'd be a nice way to recognize people, and to make Maker
Faire participants realize that they too could get involved.
Anyhow, I encourage people to go; if I'm around, I sure will.

I know you're all reading that subject line, thinking to
yourselves "What the hell, a little early?" (Or, ya know, maybe that's
just me). Anyways, I received a mailing from the Maker people with a
little flier and such, essentially "inviting" us back for 2010. Not
much in the way of information other than it is May 22 & 23
(weekend before Memorial day) and once again at the San Mateo County
Event Center.

For those that weren't involved last year (or have forgotten): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/Maker_Faire
And because asking this group if anyone "wants" to go is silly... I
jumped directly to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/Maker_Faire_2010
