Wikipedia Birthday Party: First thanks and congrats!

Hello BAWUG! I'm sure this is not the last email you will get about today's amazing party, but I guess it's the first. TLDR: It went so, so well! Thank you too everyone who was there, and there in spirit! Thank you so much to all the volunteers! We did so good folks!! It was a huge, multifaceted event for hundreds of people and we fucking killed it. All I saw was smiles in the crowd, I saw volunteers stepping in and stepping up and helping each other eagerly and kindly. And so many people, who already knew and loved Wikipedia, came away with the tools and knowledge and inspiration to start editing, or at least spread the word. Thank you everyone. BAWUG has always been a close knit group and we've put on some fun events. But this was truly next level. I am super excited and inspired on how high this rocketship might truly go. Special, personal, non-official thanks to Emeline, because I intimately witnessed just how many crazy project ideas and workshops and stations she pulled off, and I'm sure it was just the tip of the iceberg. Thank you Emeline, what an amazing accomplishment and gift. Feel free everyone to respond and share photos and stories and your own thanks and congratulations! Birthday celebration is tomorrow!

Hi all, First of all, welcome to everyone who joined in the last couple weeks! This is a reminder about our big birthday celebration happening tomorrow at the Main Branch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event:Wikipedia_25th_Birthday_Bay_Area If you have signed up to be a volunteer, we are sending you another email - and please ask for your teeshirt at the welcome desk. An overview of the schedule: All day (10.30am–16:30 pm): Wiki-themed photobooth, screenprinting, crafts, Wikipedia games and puzzles, community banner 10:30–11:15 am — How to Edit Wikipedia for Children and Families 11:15 am–12:15 pm — Panel 1:00–1:45 pm — Photography for Wikipedia Workshop (camera or good quality smartphone camera recommended) 1:45–2:30 pm — Wikipedia History Trivia & Birthday Cake 2:30–4:30 pm — Editathon focused on Bay Area articles (bring a laptop!) There's still time to register! Do bring friends and family. Next meetup: We have had some difficulties with finding a bigger venue for our February meetup (on the 12th), which was meant to be a talk and workshop with Wikiportraits. Wikipedia is often the first stop in the research journey. Yet, fewer than 20 percent of biographical articles in Wikipedia are about women. Wikipedia does acknowledge that its content reflects its editorship (75.6% of US editors are white; 90% are male). These editors decide which topics are "notable" and therefore worthy of inclusion, which often excludes genderqueer and female individuals and topics from the global South. *You can be part of the solution!
