Hello,

I have some stories! I can provide more details on request.

Wikimedia New York City is doing the following:
It is a supporter of the Wikipedia Education Program in the United States, hosting regular presentations at universities and encouraging professors to incorporate Wikipedia into college classrooms
It is hosting the first US Wikipedia national conference next spring 2014. Previously, the New York City annual Wikipedia Day event has attracted 100-150 people in each of the past three years. Next year will be the first event which is for people in nationwide.

Wikimedia DC is doing the following
Wikimedia DC is the major supporting chapter for cultural partnerships in the GLAM program in the United States
Wikimedia DC is a partner to the Cato Institute, a think tank which is exploring the possibility of documenting all notable US laws of the central government on Wikipedia. This is said to be necessary to democracy.

Wiki Project Med - A proposed thematic chapter which is international but legally registered in New York
outreach to medical schools for the Wikipedia Education Program
Translation Task Force - an effort to improve the 100 most popular health articles to good status, then translate them into every language. Supported by a partnership with Translators without Borders
Partnerships with three organizations to develop health content - Consumer Reports in the United States, the World Health Organization in Geneva, and the Cochrane Collaboration in the UK

Wikimedia LGBT -a proposed thematic organization which is international but almost entirely English speaking
fledgling organization seeking greater development
created proposal for Peer review between chapters - http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Peer_review
proposal for people at gay prides around the world to upload and document gay pride events in every country
development of Wikipedia anti-discrimination infrastructure, including safe-space policies, harassment complaint guidelines, and support for people who complain of discrimination

collaborations
Wikimedia DC, Wikimedia NYC, and Wiki Project Med are collaborating on a partnership with the National Institutes of Health. This is the top health agency of the government and several people in this organization are more welcoming to a Wikipedia partnership than the current Wikipedia community is able to be in return. When there is more health community which can interact with them, it seems that they will be increasingly friendly to collaborate.

Thanks,

Hello again,

this is our last call for action. Deadline is Sunday (7 July) evening.

Please share your favourite, cool, awesome, interesting or just easy
and enjoyable projects with us so that we can share them with the huge
crowd of Wikimaniacs in Hong Kong.

This is really not about inventing the wheel or rocket science, we
just would like to give a brief overview about what is going on in the
chapters' world. The projects you submit don't need to be super-unique
or brand-new, please just feel free to share your every day work here.
:)

It just takes 15 minutes to fill this beautiful form: http://goo.gl/KJhYl

We are still missing the submissions of the following chapters:

Wikimedia Argentina
Wikimedia Australia
Wikimedia Chile
Wikimedia Czech Republic
Wikimedia DC
Wikimedia Hungary
Wikimedia India
Wikimedia Macau
Wikimedia Macedonia
Wikimedia New York
Wikimedia Norway
Wikimedia Philippines
Wikimedia Portugal
Wikimedia Russia
Wikimedia Serbia
Wikimedia Spain
Wikimedia Sweden
Wikimedia Venezuela

Don't miss the chance to have us present your projects on the
Wikimania main stage as one of the first sessions of the whole
conference. Best time to create some pick-up lines for further talks.
:)

Be there or be square, we are counting on you! Thanks a lot for your support.

tl;dr: Please share your favourite chapter projects and fill out this
form: http://goo.gl/KJhYl

Dear Wikimedians and Wikimaniacs,

You may recall our email a little while ago, where we asked you to
submit the ‘coolest projects’ of your organisation. We’re happy that
we have received a number already before the original deadline! Thanks
to all those that took the effort already, we can get started with
preparing.

I'd like to remind all chapter and affiliation representatives of this
enquiry that we still want your submissions. Please note that we use a
very broad definition of ‘cool’ and that while you may be unimpressed,
in our definition actually all the work chapters do is cool and
awesome! You just don’t realise it because you do it all the time, or
blinded by even cooler stuff. The organisations for which we’re still
missing a submission of their coolest projects are:

Wikimedia Argentina
Wikimedia Australia
Wikimedia Bangladesh
Wikimedia Canada
Wikimedia Chile
Wikimedia Czech Republic
Wikimedia DC
Wikimedia France
Wikimedia Hungary
Wikimedia India
Wikimedia Israel
Wikimedia Italy
Wikimedia Macau
Wikimedia Macedonia
Wikimedia Mexico
Wikimedia Netherlands
Wikimedia New York
Wikimedia Norway
Wikimedia Philippines
Wikimedia Portugal
Wikimedia Russia
Wikimedia Serbia
Wikimedia South Africa
Wikimedia Spain
Wikimedia Sweden
Wikimedia Taiwan
Wikimedia Venezuela

So unless you'd like us to talk for an hour about the projects in only
the 13 organisations that submitted so far, I hope more chapters will
submit their three example projects they would like the Wikimaniacs to
know about. Especially if you will be presenting them later at the
conference, being presented there can really serve as an icebreaker
for upcoming talks and discussions! You should not miss this
opportunity!

Please note that we're (unfortunately) on a somewhat tight schedule -
Wikimania travelling starts within a month - and that means that we'd
like to have all chapter replies in within roughly the next 7 days. If
somewhat humanly possible. Thanks a lot for your cooperation!

Looking forward to the submissions! Warmest regards,

Lodewijk Gelauff (lodewijk@effeietsanders.org)
