Sorry, I don't know where else to ask - I was thinking of trying out the Discourse installation, and wasn't sure if I should create a new account or if I could just use my SUL credentials? And if the former, wouldn't that later clash when we merge to something like OAuth?
This test instance is not yet using OAuth to utilize SUL credentials. Discourse only supports OAuth2, and MediaWiki only supports OAuth1, so some engineering time needs to be spent to build a bridge between the two.
For now, with the test, you will need to create a new account.
