Hello,
I think the title of the message says it all :-)
You may find the resolution here: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Resolutions#November_2007
There is very little to add really, but for the fact we have been very pleased with Sue's job so far (and have no reason to expect different for the future), so it is a real pleasure to announce this appointment.
Thanks Sue !

Why did Erik recuse himself?

Good question. It's clearly says "recuse" not "abstain", and by my understanding of the word, that means he had some kind of conflict of interest, but I can't think what that could be...
Who takes over Sue's old job as management consultant, if anybody?

By my understanding, that job was only ever intended as a temporary one while some technical issues with appointing her as ED were sorted out (she was ED in all but name from the moment she was employed). I could be wrong, though.
My understanding regarding that matter was very similar to yours.
Congratulations to Sue!

It's a fair question... why not just answer it rather than respond with what I can only assume to be a sarcastic, literally translated French idiom?

I think what she's trying to say is that Sue was always the ED, and they just weren't allowed to call her that because of US laws regarding hiring foreigners.

I would support a conclusion along those lines. :-)
I certainly hope Anthere wasn't implying that the WMF attempted to subvert US law. :-)
I know she wasn't, so I strongly encourage folks not to put such words in her mouth - they're legally a bit... questionable.

Not subverting, just getting around. It's kind of like the difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion - one is legal, the other isn't.
Exactly. Sue was brought in as a contracted member of staff to carry out specific duties. This is just moving on to saying, "you've proven yourself, you've committed to meeting the legal obligations of sitting in the ED position we would like you in, and the duties you have been performing as a consultant are those which should be passed to the ED office."
Congratulations Sue! I'm delighted to see you in the job. Wikinews just might have to interview you again. ;-)

Subvert is such a strong word. Substitute it with "avoid violating" and you'd probably get more agreement.
I know she wasn't, so I strongly encourage folks not to put such words in her mouth - they're legally a bit... questionable.
I fail to see how pretending it didn't happen is a better response.

Sorry if it came through sarcastic. It did not mean to be.
Fair answer: The board did not approve in the budget a position of management consultant in the future.

There is very little to add really, but for the fact we have been very pleased with Sue's job so far (and have no reason to expect different for the future), so it is a real pleasure to announce this appointment.
Thanks Sue !
Congrats Board & Sue :) Exciting times ahead for WMF I think.
cheers Brianna
Excellent, excellent. Sue is a real asset to Wikimedia and I am glad to see that her position has finally been ratified as what it should have been. One less issue to worry about - let's get on with running WMF.
