Okay guys
Maybe the simplest thing is for volunteers to list themselves on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008/Committee/en
Please also add a little text to explain who you are, which projects you work in, how you plan to help the committee, your expertise most relevant to the tasks etc...
Thanks

"Committee members must be editors of one or more Wikimedia projects, cannot be on the board of trustees or candidates in the election, and cannot vote in the 2008 election of trustees."
Makes me wonder, do we really require them to be editor? Isn't volunteer at Wikimedia the word we are looking for here? (ie, a developer would be welcome imho to candidate). It's not that I think anyone would object to a developer because (s)he does not edit that often, but still, maybe something to keep in mind for in the future :)

Yes, "contributor" would probably be better than "editor".

That or you redefine editor to include developers, or treat MediaWiki as a sister project.

I'd be happy to volunteer, but I'm not sure exactly how I would be useful - and I also only began contributing regularly in the fall. Is there an "assistant committee member" of some sort so that I can participate in some fashion and perhaps be more useful next year?

I am pretty sure your help will be welcome whether you are on the committee or not Nathan. We need a committee to make sure things will happen and will be held at a certain standard. But help from more people is always neat. The committee should not "do it all".

Will serving as an election committee official, like last year, be restricted to those under-18?

I presume you mean *over*-18?
No, I think it will be restricted to those OVER 18, and restricted FROM those under 18. :-P
Seriously, the issue with the age limit is that on the elections wiki, the committee members have access to IP information to check for instances of double-voting. As you know, that contravenes the Foundation policy. (I happen to think it's a silly application of the policy, but whatever.) There's no reason one of our younger contributors couldn't serve on the elections committee if that feature could be separated from the balance of the duties.

More precisely at least over 18 and also over the age of majority in the jurisdiction they reside (e.g. in Japan, whose age of majority is 20, no 19 cannot volunteer etc.).

Practically I support not to make it so complicated. This kind of IP address / account connections were discussed on the committee mailing list, cced to checkuser-l last year. If this year team have such under 18 people, it may be the risk there eventually get the information the Foundation Policy explictly says not to publish to them, I'm afraid.
Last year, ComProj was asked for help, and some offered (thank, Schite!). The rest of community members will be able and willing to help Eleccom even outside of the committee, I expect.

Thank you for all the candidates for proposing their (much welcome) help. Before proposing this list to the board, I'd like to offer the opportunity to the community to jump in if they feel that there is any problem with the current candidates. Please either comment on the talk page, or privately by email to me.
Each of them added a short text to back up their candidacy.
Names are
* Datrio * Jon Harald Søby * KTC * Majorly * Mark Ryan * Pathoschild * Philippe

This looks like a very well qualified group of members for the 2008 Election Committee, and as has been discussed before, I think it is excellent that this year the committee is being appointed much earlier than last year, which will allow for a much smoother planning process. I wish the committee a smooth election process and, as a member of last year's committee, would be glad to answer any questions the new members may have (although since I see an overlap of two members between this year's committee and last year's that might not be needed).
