Dear Wikimedians, please read and comment the following plea, which is of common interest through WMF-projects: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Metapub#set_pagemoves_to_autoconfirmed_-_plea... http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Metapub#set_pagemoves_to_autoconfirmed_-_please_read_and_comment
Many thanks in advance, best regards, Elisabeth Anderl (aka spacebirdy)
I for one am opposed to this (as I noted on the page in question). This is not a decision to be decided foundation-wide, but rather on a per-project basis. Some wikis might not want to disable non-autoconfirmed users from moving, some might. That's what bugzilla requests for setting changes are for. Additionally, this removes some of the pagemove protection functionalities, as it would basically become "Can non-sysops move pages, yes/no?"

The problem is, this issue comes up most on wikis with little to no local community. The SWMT has been very busy with a large amount of vandalism related to this, and this is a solution that will work best to compliment their work. As I expressed in my comment on-wiki, this will most likely do more good than harm.
Does anyone know if it is technically possible for local wikis to opt-out of this if it is implemented?

[[m:Small Wiki Monitoring Team]]
Hi
Allthough not really related to the thread, my comment:
Which is a not so well chosen name, because not only small wikis are monitored. If compared to Commons en the EN:WP everything is small, but certain projects monitored are not small and the name therefore the qualification small is not necessary nice for people which are putting much effort in these projects.
A proposed change would be Cross Wiki Monitoring Team, which suits much better.
Please see talk page for a little discussion on that.
Kind regards, Peter

Hello, as said in the page in question http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Metapub#set_pagemoves_to_autoconfirmed_-_please_read_and_comment it does already apply to the big wikiprojects. Since this is affecting majorly small wikis without large communities or even sysops Your solutions like protecting a page or requesting it at bugzilla are impossible. Therefore there is a bugreport but for all (small) wikis, because the page move is disabled for IPs and it does not make much sense if not also for _new_ registered users
Please look at the links in the bugreport, thanks.

This is for small wikis. If some project wants to opt out, they should be allowed, but to cripple the SWMT is not a good idea. This would definitely be a big help to them; let's try to make them more effective. If some wikis don't like it, they can opt out. (I assume. If it's not technically possible, then the benefit undoubtedly outweighs the good in any event.)
