Hi Adam,

Thank you for sharing. It will interest you to know that we (I mean the Gungbe Wikinews Community) see the importance of Wikinews to the African community. After months of working on Gungbe Wikinews creation, The subdomain (guw.wiktionary.org) was finally launched on April 20, 2023 thus becoming the first indegenous African language with a Wikinews subdomain. With hundreds of spoken Wikinews articles, most of the Wikinews articles is laced with a spoken Wikinews to appeal to the not-so-literate and visually impaired gungbe speakers.

Regards,
Misimawu

Wikimedia,

Hello. I would like to share a hyperlink to a History Today article: What Do Historians Lose with the Decline of Local News? https://www.historytoday.com/archive/head-head/what-do-historians-lose-decline-local-news

“It’s bad news for local newspapers, with reports that they have reached their lowest numbers since the 18th century. How will historians study the provincial past when they can’t read all about it?”

My reason for sharing that hyperlink and for writing on these topics is that I hope that some ideas, e.g., (1) an ad-revenue-driven Wikinews model which compensates journalists, and (2) a Wikinews homepage which includes personalized local news for users, might be considered. Thank you.

Best regards,
Adam Sobieski
