Dear James,
This is just a thank you to enWP medical editors from subnational level language communities in Wikimedia Language Diversity group.
These often don't have human resources to translate your well-developed articles in full or even in part, often limiting ourselves with localization of Wikidata elements thereof for humans and eventually machines.
We are inspired by rare cases of stronger national language level communities, like our Malaysian friends & colleagues localizing whole articles in cooperation with local WHO office.
regards,

A number of the historically most prolific medical editors from EN WP have shifted much of their efforts to MDWiki since 2020 for some of the following reasons:

1) En WP is not supportive of multilingual content. For example many do not wish references in the leads of articles and actively go out of their way to remove them. Many languages of WP do not wish entire articles translated but want references present in the leads. This makes translating directly from EN WP to other languages very difficult. In fact there were recent efforts to disrupt others from doing this work, even from userspace.

2) En WP is narrow in scope. For example it does not see the economics around the cost of healthcare as being particularly notable / something that should be included per WP:NOTPRICE. And this appears to be even more so when the costs are those from low and middle income countries. Additionally EN WP does not want to include details on how procedures are performed which makes it unsuitable for content like this https://mdwiki.org/wiki/Cricothyrotomy

3) Some on EN WP are against including video per WP:NOTYOUTUBE well others are against trying to achieve a grade 12 reading level and accuse those that do of "dumbing down" our content (reading level is often grade 15 or higher for health content).

4) Some within WP are fairly favorable towards undisclosed conflicted paid editors. Dealing with the threats from these companies and their employees is simply not enjoyable, particularly for someone who has not maintained anonymity.

I’m wondering about how aware people are of their ability to edit Wikipedia. Whenever I talk to people about I edit Wikipedia, they seem only vaguely aware, and incurious. I’ve even been told “Did you know you change the information on Wikipedia?” In the inflection of “People don’t know this" only two or three years ago.
