Hello, what is the copyright status of the application icon for Wikipedia
mobile applications? This one, specifically, as far as I can tell:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WikipediaMobileAppLogo.png
The copyright information lists it as being fair use, but that seems
strange to me; is this actually correct?
Apologies for not sending this to mobile-l, my message there was
auto-bounced and I don't want to go through the subscription process just
to send one email.
You can find the application at Github
https://github.com/wikimedia/apps-android-commons
unfortunately it's not possible to find her at play store
therefore we need find next developpement generation of this great apps
for example il we can focus add multi upload and photo on one opération
it's the best next for updating
the next contests are comming like wiki loves
and we are extremely needed that

Hi all,
The much awaited, much anticipated migration of all accounts to global,
also known as single-user login finalization, is currently underway. The
process is expected to take about a week, but clearly it's never been done
before so that is an educated guess. You can read a narrative for
background, context, and what's actually occurring in this blog post (in
English), put up yesterday: <
https://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/04/14/single-user-login-for-all-wikis/>
A multilingual help page and FAQ about unified login is here: <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Help:Unified_login>
Please help spread the word with your communities as appropriate.
I'd like to extend thanks to all the staff and volunteers that have put so
much time and energy into making this happen, the list is extensive and my
gratitude is with you all.

Thanks to some hard and awesome work by This, that and the other (a.k.a
TTO), the long-requested feature of allowing users to add and remove change
tags (see T20670 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T20670>) has been
merged and should be rolled out with 1.26wmf3.[1]
Tags defined by MediaWiki or extensions, such as "HHVM", "visualeditor", or
"mobile edit", cannot be added or removed by this feature. Only tags
specifically activated for the purpose may be added, and only those tags or
tags that are unknown to MediaWiki beyond being on some existing revisions
may be removed.
Management of such tags is already available to users with the
'managechangetags' right (admins by default) via Special:Tags.
Tagging and untagging of individual revisions and log entries will come
with 1.26wmf3. Tags may be applied by users with the 'applychangetags'
right when making an edit,[2] and existing revisions and log entries may be
tagged and untagged by users with the 'changetags' right via an interface
much like that for revision deletion. Both of these rights are granted to
all logged-in users by default.
If the default assignment of these rights is a concern for the community of
any WMF-hosted wiki, please follow the procedure at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requesting_wiki_configuration_changes to
request the necessary configuration change.
For API users, the relevant modules include action=managetags, action=tag,
and action=query&list=tags.[3]
[1]: See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.26/Roadmap for the
schedule
[2]: By default there is no UI provided on the edit screen, but gadgets
may add a 'wpChangeTags' field with a comma-separated list of tags. API
users may use the new 'tags' parameter to action=edit.
[3]: See
http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/w/api.php?action=help&modules=manageta…
for help, and post questions to mediawiki-api

Hi all,
Many schools in the United States encourage or require students to perform
community service hours, such as by cleaning up parks, caring for the
disabled, or tutoring younger students. Sometimes more specialized
requirements apply, such as university schools of education or health which
may require experience that is applicable to a student's desired
coursework. Contributing to Wikimedia is one form of accepted community
service in a multi-campus Mexican university, and the practice seems to be
gaining momentum (see
https://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/04/13/wiki-learning-edit-a-thon-mexico/).
These community service programs are different from in-class assignments
that require Wikipedia editing. Wikipedia can benefit from both kinds of
activities.
I am wondering, have other Wikimedia affiliates had success with
encouraging students to complete community service requirements by
contributing to Wikimedia? I am thinking that here in Cascadia, we might
encourage schools to allow this option, and other affiliates also might
want to explore this possibility.
Thanks,
Pine
FYI an official message from Wikimedia CH:
Dear all,
Wikimedia CH held its annual General Assembly on 21 March. We're pleased to
announce that all of the Board re-candidated and were re-elected. We're
even more pleased to welcome a new, seventh Board member: Micha Rieser (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Micha).
Besides being an active administrator on the German Wikipedia, he has also
been our Wikipedian in Residence both at the Swiss Federal Archives and the
National Library. He's currently doing the job again at the Basel
University Library - this time without part-funding by WMCH. We trust that
his personal network among GLAMs will be an asset for us, and he's an
all-round great guy anyway (you can follow him on Twitter: @MLRzh)
People come, people go: Charles Andrès, our current Chief Scientific
Officer (in charge of projects and collaborations), has decided to move
back to France for family reasons. His last day in the Lausanne office will
be 30 June.
Charles has been around the French Wikipedia since 2007, joined our Board
in 2010, became our President and finally made the move to CSO. He has
given a lot of time and effort to the movement, and those who know him will
miss his relentless enthusiasm for new ideas and projects (you can still
check him out @chandreswp). The Board will consider the replacement
process, and after 30 June our Board members Stephane Coillet-Matillon and
Frédéric Schütz will handle the interim.
Best regards,
Patrick Kenel, President
