From the MLA (Modern Languages Association) via the Atlantic:
"Begin the entry in the works-cited list with the author's real name
and, in parentheses, user name, if both are known and they differ. If
only the user name is known, give it alone.
Next provide the entire text of the tweet in quotation marks, without
changing the capitalization. Conclude the entry with the date and time
of the message and the medium of publication (/Tweet/). For example:
Athar, Sohaib (ReallyVirtual). "Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at
1AM (is a rare event)." 1 May 2011, 3:58 p.m. Tweet.
The date and time of a message on /Twitter/ reflect the reader's time
zone. Readers in different time zones see different times and, possibly,
dates on the same tweet. The date and time that were in effect for the
writer of the tweet when it was transmitted are normally not known.
Thus, the date and time displayed on /Twitter/ are only approximate
guides to the timing of a tweet."

Hi All,
I think you guys can all see how useful it would be if the Chinese
Wikipedia also has the ebook/PDF creation feature as seen on other
language Wikipedias. Some countries don't always let their people
visit Wikipedia, so ebooks can be an alternative.
We have tried to solve this bug that prevents the Chinese/Japanese
Wikipedias from having this feature:
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33430
The relevant developers (PediaPress) have solved the bug to some
extent, but Shi Zhao, leader of the Chinese Wikipedia, still doesn't
think the resulting Chinese PDF files are good enough, so the Chinese
Wikipedia has not yet upgraded to the latest MediaWiki software to get
this feature.
My two suggestions:
(1) Persuade Shi Zhao to adopt the latest MediaWiki software, which
can generate ebook/PDFs for the Chinese Wikipedia, although the page
layout is not perfect.
(2) Or find another organization than PediaPress to provide this
feature, because PediaPress refuses to adopt a more Unicode-friendly
PDF code library that provides better Chinese PDF rendering.
Regards,
Ziyuan Yao

Today is a great day for chapters and a major step forward in earning trust
from everyone.
Hi everyone,
I'm pleased to welcome a new member of to the mobile engineering team.
Lindsey Smith started this week as our new Mobile UI/UX contractor.
She'll working with us in San Francisco helping us flush out the look,
feel, and experience across all of our mobile projects. This fits a
critical need of the mobile team which has grown steadily over the
last couple of months in development capacity but has not grown enough
in design capacity. With the addition of Lindsey we'll have some keen
eyes on such key projects as our new navigational system, image
uploads, and numerous future projects.
Lindsey joins us as a mobile designer from Dallas, Texas who's
recently moved to the bay area with her husband and 2 border collies.
She's worked for Semaphore Mobile on a range of client applications
from restaurant review service Zagat to custom remote control
interfaces for Traxxas cars[1]. Her educational background is in
Software Engineering but she found her passion to be in UI/UX.
Welcome Lindsey!

Dear all,
A quick update on New Models of Affiliation for the Wikimedia Movement
since the publication of the board letter on 13 Feb. The letter is at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_affiliation_models. From the
emails responding to this, SJ and I extracted a number of relevant
questions that are slowly being discussed on the talk page.
A small informal working group is aiming to move this discussion forward in
the next 15 days. We are:
Bence Damakos - ChapCom
Bishakha Datta - WMF Board
Joan Goma - Amical
Sam Klein - WMF Board
Delphine Menard - WM DE, ChapCom
Achal Prabhala - ChapCom advisor
Marcos Talles - WM ES
Galileo Vidoni - WM AR
Our aim is to discuss and progressively fine-tune the draft proposal on New
Models of Affiliation for the Wikimedia Movement. Each of the members is
already part of this discussion, has expressed a deeper interest in the
issue, or is likely to be affected by it.
We will conduct our discussions on meta at

It would help us immensely if any of you with an interest in this issue
would participate in the meta discussion as per the time-table above.
(Broken into bite-sized pieces to ensure we can focus on smaller bits; the
whole thing is a lot to chew off at once). I will continue to announce the
smaller bits at the start of each to stimulate participation - and get back
next week on steps after 14 March.
We hope this will help us develop the New Models of Affiliation draft
proposal into a solid set of recommendations and look forward to your
interest and participation.
Cheers

Querida comunidade Wikimedia:
programas no Brasil.
Wikimedia Brasil (Tom e Castelo).
5 pessoas, e a Oona planejará a equipe necessária. A exemplo do nosso
Atenciosamente,
Barry 17:23, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
==English Version==
Dear Wikimedia Community:
First of all, thank you all so much for your support with the recruiting
efforts for the Brazil National Program Director. It was a unique
experience for us all, and it was an exciting effort that produced
wonderful results (not to mention lots of learning for future,
collaborative hiring efforts). I recapped the process in a Wikimedia blog
post [1], which summarized the results of the first half and announced the
process for the second.
For those of you who participated in the assignment[2]: thank you! Given
the timeframe, there was a lot of participation and the candidates jumped
right into being engaged with the wiki and with the community, which was
the primary “test’ of the assignment. I’d like to also thank the four
candidates who participated in this unique process. Following the online
assignment, Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) and the two selected community
representatives took the comments on the assignment along with what was
learned in the four sets of interviews to select the director.
We have now completed the search, and I am thrilled to announce (what is
becoming less of a secret by the day) that we have engaged with Oona Castro
as the consultant for Brazil Programs. Oona is currently the executive
director of Instituto Overmundo, named after the collaborative community
nonprofit site focused on Brazilian culture. She is a member of the free
culture and the communications rights movements, and she has dedicated
significant time since her high school days to social justice issues. She
has a strong background in nonprofit leadership and in communications. She
was also a founder of Intervozes, a Brazilian movement for communications
rights. We all felt that she would be an excellent fit with our community
and that she will bring valuable ideas and relationships to our shared work
in Brazil. She was the unanimous choice of WMF and the two community
selected [3] Wikimedia Brazil representatives (Tom and Castelo).
Our current plan is to open a small representative office of the Wikimedia
Foundation in São Paulo. We are still working on the formation process
with our lawyers and accountants but hope to have the office in place
within six months. We expect to build a small team of 3-5 people, and Oona
will be working on a plan to determine the required roles. As with our work
to date, we expect Oona to continue our close partnership with the group
working to form the Wikimedia Brasil official chapter and to collaborate
with the whole community. We have developed an FAQ [4] and we encourage
you to add questions or comments on the talk page.
Oona will start her consultancy with the Wikimedia Foundation today (1
March). She will travel with our community team as they get to know editors
across the country.[5] She will also start work with the community to
develop program priorities building from the work of the Brazil Catalyst
Project [6] led by Carolina Rossini, and recent work that Jessie and Tom
have been engaged in.
Once again, I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this process
including applicants, finalists, community members who engaged on the wiki,
people who referred candidates to us (these referrals were vital!) and
especially Tom and Castelo. This is only one step in our process, but I am
excited to see us moving forward and increasing our strength as a movement
in Brazil.
Please wish Oona a warm welcome!
Best,
Barry

Dear all:
We're very proud to announce the beggining of the activities of the
Wikipedia Student Club in the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature
(Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, FFyL) of the National Autonomous
University of Mexico, one of the most relevant in Latin America and the
most important in Mexico, *alma mater* of notable authors as Octavio Paz,
Carlos Monsiváis or Fernando del Paso.
For this purpose, the faculty created an internal program [1] which
recognizes writing articles on Wikipedia to pass the social service
requirement (servicio social, in spanish), supported by us to assess the
quality and appropriate wiki standards in Spanish Wikipedia.
This first phase, ending in the month of August, will be on writing
articles about outstanding professors and Emeritus, and thematic articles
relating to academic fields of the Faculty, as well as literature and
Mexican authors.
We will be reporting progress.
Warmly,
Iván Martínez
General Coordinator
