Hi, my fellow Wikimedians!

I have some updates from South Korea.

Last January, some of Wikipedians consulted the Institute of Korean
Language, an agency of Korean government. The meeting was quite successful,
more than 10 Wikipedians were there and I heard they will release their
Korean dictionary, the most authorative dictionary of Korean Language, as
far as I know, under a free license such as cc-by or cc-by-sa in the end of
this year.

Korean Wikipedians will have editathons in regular basis at the National
Library of Korea. They will start the first meeting at the Library on Feb..
The library requested to help to hold Wikipedia Lecture series at the
Library. The lecture is a part of adult education. They proposed two
series of lectures, one for young adults in the first half of this year and
another one for seniors int the later half of the year. First lectures will
begin in April. The National Library of Korea is a national model of
libraries in Korea. I hope the lectures on Wikipedia would be propagated to
all libraries over the country.

To found the local chapter, Korean Wikipedians will meet and nominate board
members for provisional committee of the local chapter at March 10, in
Seoul. I hope interested pesonnels and institutions would provide aids for
founding activity. Google Korea will sponsor meeting places for the coming
meetings.

Cheers,

Congratulations, RYU Cheol!  These are strong successes and are great
news for the Wikimedia movement.  Thank you for your work.

I'd be happy to work with you on:

* encouraging Korean technologists to contribute to MediaWiki and
related Wikimedia open source projects -- we have some new tutorial
texts and videos up at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Category:Tutorials
* helping Korean computer science students apply for paid open source
work via Google Summer of Code, especially on MediaWiki --
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Summer_of_Code_2012 has more details
* connecting you to the Wikimedia localisation team to help fix any
problems specific to Korean Wikipedia and Wikimedia's support for the
Korean language

(Please feel free to forward my offer to public email lists, blogs, etc.)

Best wishes,
