For those of you who might not be on the India mailing list, you might want to consider a similar event in Pune. I know there are some very avid and passionate photographers in your city and there's some amazing sights that can be captured.  

The Ahmedabad one was planned quite elaborately and it might be useful to pick their brains to figure out what can be done and how.  (Key contacts would be Noopur, Anirudh, Srikeit & Arnav; the last 2 are based in Pune!)  Would be great if they could share tips on mobilising volunteers, training them the basics of Wikimedia Commons, organising the actual event and managing the back end (categorisation, etc.) as well as challenges they faced (typically newbie challenges around kinds of images, watermarks, copyrights, etc.)

Greetings!  This is a short update on the January edition of Wikipedia Takes Ahmedabad.  From where I stand, the event has been a resounding success!  Over seventy-five people turned up, both old and young, this morning, which is no mean feat since it was very cold as well as a working day.

Special thanks to Noopur Raval, our benevolent dictator and project mastermind, Srikeit Tadepalli, who spent time with me following the project participants prepping them and helping them figure out Wikimedia projects.  Our heartfelt gratitude to Aviral Mediratta, Khayal Dave, Yash Vadiwala, Konarak Ratnakar, Smit Shah, Karthik Mistry and Chirag Solanki; our team leads and coordinators for helping everyone take beautiful pictures.

Please keep an eye on our maintenance [[Category:Ahmedabad 1]], specially created for the event.  238 pictures have been uploaded so far... and we expect a lot more being uploaded by tomorrow.
