hi,

Wikipedia and its sister projects do not exist in vacuum. It thrives in an environment. For it to succeed and blossom it needs help from various groups that share our interest in sharing human knowledge but also those that enable this sharing of knowledge.

It is not just about people who can sit down for certain number of hours and edit a page, share photographs, etc. like we all do but also much more.

Technology might make our work easier to do. We need help from techies and hackers who can work their way around code that can improve MediaWiki, the software that powers Wikipedia.

Law might make our work easier to do. We need help from lawyers so that we can make use, are aware of the licenses we use and ensure no Wikipedian is needlessly harrowed for contributing to our cause.

Having place to do a meetup, a hackathon or hold events.

And so much more. All this needs an ecosystem. I think we must think about where this ecosystem exists in Mumbai and in addition to trying and help grow Wikipedia must also try and nurture these ecosystems which are so essential for our own growth.

Just a thought,
Pradeep
