hi,
While looking up on Wiki Loves Public Art, I noticed that the wiki page for
WLM 2013 is also up. I saw India's name missing in the list of
participating countries and was bold enough to add our name there.
It would be awesome to make WLM 2013 more bigger and more collaborative
than 2012. If you're interested in being a part of the WLM 2013, please
sign up on this page -

warm regards,

Hi All,
The following are the minutes of the meeting:
*In Attendance: *
Mr. Vishnu - CIS A2K Programme Director
Mr. Abhijith Jayanthi
Mr. Rahimanuddin Shaik
Dr. Rajasekhar
Mr. Tausif
Mr. Sai Anudeep
Ms. Akhila Thumma
Mr. Veera Venkata Chowdary (User: Veevan)
*Minutes of Meeting:*
(1) The meeting opened with a round of introductions about self and then
Mr. Vishnu introduced CIS and A2K Programme - little history and his
proposed ideas for shaping up the future course of the Programme and open
up for discussions. The summary of the presentation and
comments/suggestions that followed as indicated below:
*Summary*
(1) Greater Coordination is envisaged between CIS/ India Chapter + SIGs and
the Wiki Community at large
(2) Volunteering efforts of Wiki Community (snow balls) and the engagement
needs to be better utilized with the support of CIS (positioning the start
point for the snow ball to start rolling) so that impact is better
captured.
*Suggestions/Comments*
Two approaches to volunteer engagement were suggested - merits/demerits
need to be evaluated and are indicated below
(a) Recognition in terms of participation certificates/ appreciation
letters and setting an hierarchy of achievement will motivate the
volunteers and engage them better.
(b) Wiki Volunteering should stem out of passion for knowledge and should
be structured on a ''No - Expectations-in-Return" Model
(3) Mr. Vishnu gave an update on the institutions in Hyderabad that he is
trying to connect with (initial level)
(4) Few proposals were discussed as part of the initiative:
(a) Engaging on a Mobile Model for Wiki Academies: With volunteers and SIGs
taking active role in engaging on a small-groups/local setup structures -
making Wiki Academy a more sustained dialogue rather than touch and go
activity (one day engagements); move towards a longer engagement pattern
(b) WikiRTI#: A platform/initiative was discussed and received support from
everyone present - to create a repository for anyone to upload RTI
responses and thus move towards a general archive/knowledge bank schematic.
# Mr. Tausif and Mr. Abhijith will be coordinating on creating a template
design for this platform - anyone who is interested and wants to be part of
this activity may contact Mr. Abhijith at abhijith(a)wikimedia.in
(5) Mr. Vishnu proposed a tentative plan to engage a staff member based out
of Hyderabad to roll-out activities in Hyderabad and around the state of
Andhra Pradesh; proposal for which is expected to be discussed before
taking forward. Mr. Abhijith expressed interest to make a necessary
donation for the same post finalization
The meeting concluded with all the participants seeking to have a greater
engagement with A2K Team in Hyderabad involving various languages.
regards
Abhijith

Dear Friends,
Not sure if all of you have got this information
about 'Individual Engagement Grants' given by Wikimedia Foundation.
Please see the mail below. Actively encourage you all to consider
applying for this.
Best wishes,
Vishnu
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG#ieg-applying
[1]
"Individual Engagement Grants support Wikimedians to complete
projects
that benefit the Wikimedia movement, lead to online impact, or
otherwise
serve our mission, community, and strategic priorities.
"We
fund individuals or small teams to build, organize, pilot,
create,
improve, research or facilitate something that enhances the
work of
Wikimedia's volunteers and helps us achieve our vision of a
world in
which every single human being can freely share in the sum of
all
knowledge."
The deadline for the current round is Feb 15 24:00
UTC, which is about
26 hours from when I send this. Proposals for the
next round will open
in August.
Please also consider helping discuss
current proposals between now and
22 February:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG#ieg-reviewing [2]
"Open
discussion and evaluation of proposals is intended to
encourage
diversity and innovation in the grants made, by bringing
multiple
perspectives to the selection process. Funding limits the
amount of
Individual Engagement Grants we are able to make in each
round, and
proposals are carefully evaluated and selected according
to
pre-determined criteria
."
Hope this is of interest!

*Dear all,*
*
*
*On the second anniversary of the Chapter, we made public our intention of
running our first fundraiser. Going ahead with the first phase of this
plan, we will be running a central site notice on the chapter website for a
period of two calendar months starting 1 February, 2013. In the second
phase of this plan, we aim to approach high networth individuals and
corporates in the month of March 2013. This will be done using personal and
professional networks of current and past EC members, staff, volunteers
among others.*
*
Suggestions, help and support from the community on what we can do to
ensure success of this fundraiser are welcome. Every drop counts :)
Donations can be made by Online Bank Transfer (NEFT/RTGS) or by sending us
a Cheque through snail mail. We are unable to accept card payments at this
current time. Link to the donation page on our website:
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Donate
Thanking you,
Executive Committee,
Wikimedia India.
*Reasoning* (From our public statement on 4 January, 2013)
A lot of people may ask why the chapter needs a fundraiser when it has
access to WMF funding. The answer is, we are still ineligible for FDC of
WMF (we hope to be eligible for the second round of funding in 2013) and
would need to rely on grants, spending of which is restricted by the WMF.
Since formation, the chapter has relied heavily on the Executive Committee
to take on the burden of running the show. In an ideal world, the EC would
like to take on the role of guiding the chapter rather than actually be
responsible for operations after two years of incorporation, which should
be best done by professionals rather than volunteers in their spare time.
The chapter has hired an employee (Sowmyan Tirumurti, our Executive
Manager) as well as plans to lease its own office premises in Bangalore. We
will need the help of those volunteers who are in a position to support us.
It could be a small individual donation or in the form of a corporate
donation from an institution. A small token of support from you could go a
long way in helping us achieving our goals of furthering the movement in
India.*
