Thanks Pradeep, you are a very valuable human resource to the WikiProject. You regularly turn up pages which are forgotten by us all over time. Yes, I think that could be done.

Warm regards,

hi,

I was actually looking for an issue every 3 months.

A via-media sounds like a good idea. Perhaps create a section on the outreach page -  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Outreach page. What would you call this?

Pradeep

Pradeep,

It is great that we see you in action after the Nov-Dec INCOTMs once again. I do agree that we should have a long run in mind rather than a sprint.

Could we have a via media - a skimpy newsletter which delivers the monthly reports in between and a proper loaded full-fledged special issue every four months as you suggested? The reason is that we'd like to have a delivery vehicle in place for our monthly reports.

Warm regards,

Ashwin Baindur

Hi Ashwin,

While your enthusiasm is certainly infectious, I'm going in with caution. A reading through the pages[1] reveals that this newsletter has come out only 2-3 times per year since 2006 and 2011 is the first year that not a single issue came out. I'd like to get the first one out on a strong footing, so that I get an idea of how the newsletter is produced, standardise is somewhat, and get regular issues of the newsletter going out.

Given my personal time constraints, I thought that May would be a good month to launch it to get some of the above things done and launch the newsletter. Let's make this a marathon effort and not a 100m sprint. My aim is to have at least 4 issues go out this year and the next and have a few more editors who know how to put an issue together and out so that other Wikipedians will be able to run the newsletter, when other things catch our fancy.

Thanks to you for offering to partner with me on the first edition of 2012. Can we make April our first edition?

Thanks also to Tinu for the offer to distribute the newsletter.

warm regards,
Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,

Great idea. I am happy to see a respected editor and activist such as you come forward to volunteer for community activities. :)

As volunteer coordinator for WikiProject India, I promise to act as co-volunteer for the first three months till the monthly report settles down. But we need you or someone else to make a commitment up front for at least the next three issues (March, April, May - we cannot wait till May). May I request you to volunteer for the job as the privilege of the person who has suggested this good idea in the first place?

We are already providing a number of monthly reports/outputs which can very easily be combined to form the bulk of the newsletter.

We would need to change the format of this newsletter however. Purportedly about WikiProject India,  the avatar that you have linked was instead an all-in-one community magazine. Outreach & GLAM are not core activities for WikiProject India though they help develop the community and hence are generally supported in principle. The focus of the monthly WikiProject report has to be the online WikiProject activities though other things may also be covered from time to time.

I feel the following can easily be done:
  • The INCOTM brings out a monthly summary. User:BPositive's report can be published here instead of the usual places it s reflected.
  • I provide a monthly summary of activity in the WikiPoject. This too can be published here.
  • The assessment drive's monthly summary is aso available.
  • We can introduce a daughter WikiProject each month.
  • We can introduce the Wikimedian of the month here in addition too.
  • The chapter's and IP's summaries can be linked from here.
  • A link to WikiPathrika issue can be given.
  • A featured article of the month, image. media etc can be chosen.
  • We can have an op-ed column where people can take up issues for discussion.
  • A tips & tricks/how-to/teaching column can be incorporated.

Also, we would need to take out the March issue right away, even if it is bare bones compilation of outputs for the month. We cant wait till May.

This month, we should take out the issue by 20th and slowly prepone it to by the 7th of the month.

Warm regards,

Ashwin Baindur

hi,

I am happy to see signs of activity and renewed interest in WP:India post-WCI. One of the aspects that I would like to revive is the newsletter, the last edition of which came out in November 2010.

I hope that working with others on this list and on the project page, we can bring out the next newsletter in May 2012.

warm regards,
Pradeep
