Dear community,
In our ongoing effort to maintain consistent communication between the Wikimedia Ghana User Group board and you, our esteemed community, we are pleased to announce a few grant awards we have received from the Wikimedia Foundation for the upcoming grant year 2025/2026, starting from 1st July, 2025. General Support Fund Grant Approved
The Wikimedia Ghana User Group has successfully received its annual General Support Fund Grant from the Wikimedia Foundation. This funding supports the day-to-day operations of our User Group, including operational, administrative, and programmatic needs, as well as community space management. This annual grant will help support many of the activities outlined in our grant application, which is accessible to all community members on Meta Wiki. Knowledge Equity Fund: Empowering Underrepresented Knowledge
We are also glad to announce that we have been awarded a support grant from the Knowledge Equity Fund to help The Media Foundation West Africa. The Knowledge Equity Fund was established to support organizations working to close knowledge gaps and address barriers that prevent marginalized communities from fully participating in the Wikimedia movement.
The Wikimedia Ghana User Group will support the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) in increasing the visibility and accessibility of its diverse portfolio of public-interest initiatives. These initiatives address critical knowledge gaps, with a particular focus on freedom of expression, human rights, and digital rights. Through this collaboration, we aim to make MFWA’s work more accessible to both West African and global audiences. This will be achieved through capacity building on open knowledge platforms, principles, and licensing guidelines, as well as by fostering connections between MFWA and the broader West African Wikimedia community.
We thank the Wikimedia Foundation and the Knowledge Equity Fund Committee for trusting in our mission.
In conclusion, we anticipate the usual level of community participation in this grant year; we hope that you will support us in ensuring the success of our project.
Regards,
