that sounds nice as well! but let me give a little more detail on wiki
loves monuments (WLM), and a couple of links.

the goal of WLM is that people take fotos of national monuments and
upload them to wikimedia commons under a free license. the best ones
get a prize. the basis is usually a list of monuments from some
government body or whoever feels responsible. for ghana i found a
little map: http://www.touringghana.com/tourist_sites.asp. interesting
is that there is no (or little) articles about all these sites, the
same true for photos.

an idea could be to do some "mini WLM": switch on a banner for the
month of september, linking to some page describing how to register an
account, create an article, add a foto to an article, upload a foto to
commons and as well the little list of monuments above. don't let you
frighten by the timeline of the full-blown wlm contest though.

an additional benefit would be if the ghana organizer could contact
the tourist ministery or heritage ministery to have some blessing in
general and for the list in special.
