Opening a ticket in phabricator about how bad editing experience on mobile was, is, and continue to be might not be the first to be seen by the WMF, and likely won't be the last. I won't be surprised if such tickets motivate them to do little.

Sidenote: to be honest, editing experience on Wikipedia (and via VisualEditor) is way more, far more, over five thousand percent better than it used to be some years ago. You might agree with me on that. Editors from the days of 2001 might be able to tell more from what improvements have been achieved.

Editing isn't smooth for all, yet some countries (continents) record high active editors. Editors from these region do not use a different Wikipedia website than African countries.

Thus, although bad editing experience on the platform might contribute to editor editing struggles, we also want to learn more about what other factors are also involved.

while i am in favor to spend 150'000 cedi in ghana every year i would love to see contributions encouraged, be it content, software or openstreetmap. there were a couple of beautiful efforts on english wikipedia, on commons, as well on akan wikipedia like malaria:

beside the cost of internet, mobile editing is crappy enough that it blocks new editors. sit in a university and ask 500 persons to edit an article is much more worthwile imo than ask 20 existing editors why they do not edit so much as they could. then we could open phabricator tickets https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/ to get this fixed.

I think such a research is long overdue as it will give insight into editor patterns and more tailored to Ghanaian wiki community. Such insights could be expanded to understanding other african countries.

You can read more from the link below.

Although internet connectivity/cost might seem a delimiting factor for many when it comes to contributing to wmf sites, I believe there's more to that, and hopefully, this research will give us eyes into such issues.

This is to notify the Usergroup (as some might already be aware) of a draft proposal we are working on at

As part of the interventions to address the low levels of participation from our community, this proposal intends to study a cross-section of Ghanaian Wikipedia editors to assess factors that influence their editing patterns and seek out possible ways to increase their activity.

All of your opinions and input are most welcome.
