Be one of the world's first Wikipedians in Community

WikiAfrica - Activating Africa

WikiAfrica is looking for two Wikipedians in Community for its Kumusha Takes Wiki Project.

*Kumusha Takes Wiki requires a trained Wikipedian in Community who will activate communities (or Kumusha’s) in Côte d’Ivoire and Uganda

The Kumusha Takes Wiki project will use community journalism to gather, and encourage others to contribute information on the pieces that make up their identity (including, but not limited to culture, notable persons, heritage, geographical features, transport nodes and other community-relevant subjects). The project gives each community an online presence that is ‘owned’ by the community, and to which they can upload and provide information that can be pulled into Wikipedia, Wikimedia projects and Open Street Maps.

The project is designed to use the power of technology to raise awareness of the richness of personal and community-based knowledge, and to encourage people across a vast range of socio-economic and age groups to contribute to the Wikipedias. By placing this information on the Wikipedias, it ensures that global representations of Africa are complex, layered and truthfully reflect contemporary reality.

The deadline for applications is 11 December 2013.

We welcome all applications and would be grateful if you could share this email on to anyone or group of people that you think are suitable.

*Kumusha is a Shona term meaning ‘the place where you come from’.

Thank you,

Isla and Florence
