That's really nice to hear.

@kweku Dartey, kindly take it from there. As Ato suggested, you can target the class initially before we can later on extend to the whole organization.

We'll love to hear your feedback in activities relating to that.

@san How far with your article to Wikimedia Blog? You need any help?

@oral I'm glad you sent the message to Barbara. That's nice.

Good day to all.

Well @ Ato - I'm talking about Ruth Kwakwa, she just got the appointment less than a month ago...

Nice @ Kweku.
I didn't think of Ashesi before because I was really into Legon as per their history department.

Did you mean Esi Ansah as dean? I think we should start with that particular class and not with Ashesi as a whole though.

I am happy to talk to Patrick too.

Hi Dede and all,

Sorry this comes a late hour... Unfortunately, I no longer have access to a phone with wassup so I will be missing in action on that front; at least for a couple of weeks until I can get a proper replacement to my phone. Again, I was busy over last week and the weekend with little access to internet hence I could not response to this mail until now.

Realistically, I will love to offer my services in the second category of members (in fact the second option for all two categories) and guarantee a minimum of 8 hours a week towards editing; that is 5 hours a week and the remaining 3 split evenly over the weekend. Editing is my strongest suite hence my offer however my resolve comes with some baselines the most prominent being; ideally, a 24 hour deadline for each piece to allow for a more holistic output and presentation; I may dedicate an hour of actual sit-down time to edit but I will definitely spend more time interacting with piece before and after that hour prior to rendering in the final piece.

Additionally, I would love to dedicate another 2 hours, each week, towards content/ editorial development and resolving general community issues. This brings my total weekly participation time to 10 hours a week - for now.

Now in response to earlier discussions on partnership prospects with educational institutions, I happen to know the new dean of students for Ashesi University who just happens to be a close friend. I could talk to her about some prospects for engagement. My pitch will delve into the amazing opportunity this will give Ashesi to nurture the minds and knowledge base of wiki-readers on the Ghanaian situation by providing content for the platform. I know they have a class of some sort which reviews and discusses new trends and news in and out of Ghana and how these affect the socio-economic growth of the country as a whole. We could get them to transcribe their daily discussions which we in turn can revert into solid content linked with reputable sources...

The prospects are certainly endless and just a phone call away - that is once the team agrees... In fact Ato can be a valuable resource here since he has a good relationship with the President of the University, Patrick Awuah.

Do revert your thoughts and comments...

I bid you all a most productive day.

Sincerely,

Kweku Darteh ANANE-APPIAH

Hi all,

I assume you saw my Whatsapp message and so you are updated. Until we start having meetings and affording them, we would have to resort to long emails.

About Mailing list

The emails will now come from mailing list given us by Wikimedia.
Our coordinator Rexford and co handle this list and so they will be the best people to tell us what we gain from mailing lists and other how tos about it.

@Rexford @Oral kindly enlighten us if you can especially  with what that “Digest” means

Discussion and Talk pages

I am happy to announce that we are really involved in a very resourceful project. Wikimedia has all the infrastructure we need to run our projects smoothly but the problem is there are so many we miss some at times.

Let me introduce to you user talk and discussion pages. I have done some explanations herehttp://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Planning_Wikimedia_Ghana
Please let’s read. The key to figuring out Wikimedia is to read. This will now be our discussion grounds. I learnt Wikimedia monitors all these pages to see our progress and involvement.

@Ato, you articulated some views in the chatroom about how we can get work done. I am inviting you to go to this page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Planning_Wikimedia_Ghana and put that suggestion under the “Suggestions” segment. I will be glad to assist with any questions you have.

Membership

It has come to my notice since joining Wiki that there are 3 types of motivation for this project. This is not an official categorization but I see it.

1.       They are members who like Wikimedia like to be associated with this big name. Beyond that, they do nothing.
2.       There are members who also love open source and creating and distributing free educational and informational resources.
3.       There are also others who are experts in a field and they want to lend their expertise to chapter formation without necessarily contributing or editing often.

Guys, as Acting operations manager, I can only sweat and dedicate myself to those joining Planning Wikimedia for the categories 2 and 3.

@Ato and@ Oral have made it clear they belong to 3. Ato is our Act. Advisor and Oral is Act. PRO
@Georgina @Harold @Kweku determine where you belong/ what you can offer. So I know what to expect from you

I have also noticed once again that there are 2 levels of involvement with the little research I have done.

1.       Some Wikimedians are hard core editors/ contributors. Some have edited and contributed 100000s of times. Amazing stuff. Some of such gurus are NOT even members of a chapter.
2.       Some people have just 100s of edits yet they work hard to hold the chapter’s activities together in ensuring that 1000000s of edits come from the countries where their chapter is based.

Please note that the Wikimedia Ghana’s chapter’s vision is to nuturing people like  1.  So @Georgina @Harold @Kweku y’all have been here some days now. If you want to join 2., make me aware so that I can integrate you in to administration properly.
I am diving into the About My School Project  http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Ghana/About_My_School_Contest with all intensity. I need people who have sacrificed themselves that I can call on. I don’t want to chase anyone.

Regards,
Sandister Tei
