This Month at WMGH (May 2026) - Ghana Edits Wikipedia, Wiki Loves Places & New Opportunities

Greetings, Get the latest updates from Wikimedia Ghana User Group (WMGH) for May: ------------------------------ *The Ghana Edits Wikipedia Roadshow Went to Four Regions in May* In May, the Roadshow bus went to Bolgatanga <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolgatanga>, Cape Coast <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Coast>, Kumasi <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumasi> and Accra <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accra>. Participants learned the basics of Wikipedia editing, explored different ways to contribute to Wikipedia <http://wikipedia.org>, and made their first edits! ------------------------------ *Saturday Editing Sessions Begin in Accra* Weekly Saturday editing sessions are now underway at the Work From Home Workspace <http://google.com/maps/place/Work+From+Home+(Work+Space)/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x…> in Accra. The pilot session took place on 23 May 2026 and brought together new and experienced editors for training, collaboration and in-person community engagement. Sessions continue through June. ------------------------------ *English Wikipedia 101 with Newcomer Growth Features* On 30 May 2026, we hosted an exploratory workshop focused on Wikipedia's Newcomer Growth Features <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Growth/Feature_summary>. Participants learned to edit independently with the tools, explored Wikipedia reading through the mobile app, and signed up for the Global Reading Challenge. <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Apps/Team/25th_Birthday_Reading_Ch…> ------------------------------ *Wiki Loves Places Ghana 2026* Wiki Loves Places <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Places_2026_in_Ghana> launched on 28 May 2026 and will run throughout June. The campaign aims to document places in Ghana on Wikimedia Commons <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page>, Wikidata <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Main_Page> and OpenStreetMap <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenStreetMap> using geotagged photos. Participants can photograph schools, hospitals, roads, markets and other places across Ghana. Top contributors will receive prizes.
