BTW - we might do a scan-a-thon NARA meetup on January 7 and tentatively working to schedule something at the Pratt Library in Baltimore on the weekend of January 14. But, think many folks (me included) like the social-only meetups too.

I have a small update on the NARA plans. This will be taking place in my second-to-last week as Wikipedian in Residence (and as a DC-area local). I've been thinking a bit about how we might make the event more successful by encouraging broader participation (especially for newbies), giving the event a cooler brand, and picking a theme. Please take a look at what I have in mind (pending a NARA okay) at:

There is no lunch, no presentations, and no tours. Instead, we would meet in the research rooms at a pre-arranged Wikipedia table and all work on a common collection chosen ahead of time. I realized that not having to book a lecture room and plan for talks, food, and tours really freed us up, and we could turn this into a more free-form, weeklong event where folks could come in any day (or multiple) that they were able or interested, for as long as they want. We're planning on actually being organized with scanners this time, and having themes means we can get some archivists who work in the subject area to participate. I'd like to work in some kind of prize, too, if we can think of a way to make a contest out of this.

Any thoughts on the event proposal would be much appreciated—it's just something I thought up one day. :-)
