Hi all,
During the past Wikimedia Conference and the preceding days, a lot of
Wikimedians came together and many of them did not know anyone and where
wondering who in the hotel also is a Wikipedian/Wikimedian.
To make it easier for users, a page has been published to help them:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/How_to_recognise_a_Wikipedian
The page describes what you can look for with the subsequent levels for a
higher level of recognisability.
Hopefully this page makes it easier to recognise other people you share the
same passion with.
Thanks all for the conference, see you soon again!
Romaine
Dear friends in cuteness,
What is the expected representation of our illustrious association at
Wikimania this year? Let folks accompanying members of the Wikimedia
Cuteness Association post a brief introduction, and perhaps say something
about their expected cute participation in this year's event.
Cancunchyk the Turtle[1] is here in Montreal, with me as amanuensis.
Cancunchyk has been participating in the WCA's first-ever Cuteness Exchange
Program, and has been traveling with me this past year, since Wikimania in
Esino Lario in 2016. He has had occasion to supervise my talks and
activities in events such as the Wikimedia CEE Meeting in Armenia,
WikiConference India, WikiIndaba in Ghana, the Wikimedia Conference in
Berlin, WikiConference Bulgaria, WikiConference Czech Republic, and even
met a US Ambassador and was instrumental in sensitive talks with the
Turkish government in a (so far unsuccessful) effort to remove the block
from Wikipedia in Turkey.
My usual travel companion, Shaxal the Lion[2], has had the benefit of WMF
Board member Nataliia Tymkiv serving as his amanuensis since Esino Lario,
and is expected to attend -- and, indeed, supervise -- the WMF Board of
Trustees meeting this year.
At the conclusion of Wikimania, Shaxal's and Cancunchyk's exchange program
would end, and they will work together[3] on publishing a report on the
Cuteness Exchange Program, which they hope to see replicated across the
cuteness movement.
Finally, I believe I have spotted *prospective member* Pushynochka's
amanuensis in the lobby today, and since Shaxal and Cancunchyk have already
conducted a membership interview with Pushynochka in Esino Lario[4], this
event would be a good opportunity to formally induct Pushynochka to the WCA.
Yours in cuteness,
Asaf

Hi all,
*(Please forward to whoever this may concern.)*
On request of Wendy the Weasel the following notes from the Wikimedia
Conference 2017 in Berlin.
1.
At the conference 16 mascots were present, of which 13 are on the group
photo, and 3 sadly stayed in the hotel room during the group photo.
The group photo of the plushies, supported by the rest of the participants
of the Wikimedia Conference, has been tagged and added to the Meta page.
The tag contains all names + species, so far known! From 3 mascots the
personal assistants were gone too fast to ask for the names, *who can help?*
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikimedia_Conference_2017_%E2%80%93…
2.
During the group photo the traditional cuteness meetup took place. As
transparency and cuteness are core principles of the Wikimedia movement, it
is good to show that the cute mascots are everywhere. Therefore a list of
cuties has been created at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Cuteness_Association/Membership_l…
Please check and fill in missing fields. Also some mascots still need to be
added.
3.
The Wikimedia Cuteness Association (WCA) has now a Wikidata item at:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q29169245
Please help with filling other statements!
One question that comes up is when the WCA was founded?
Thank you for the great meeting says Wendy,

Hi all,
We need to show the cuteness of our movement, and the best way to do this
is by group photo.
With a group photo an organisation or team in the Wikimedia movement can
show in this way that the mascot is cute, as well as that they support the
import role this mascot has in the Wikimedia movement.
Therefore I added a section to the page of the Wikimedia Cuteness
Association at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Cuteness_Association#Group_photos
Please add existing group photos to this page, and if none is available
yet, please make sure you have one created with your mascot + group and
added to the page.
And of course, share it on our new mailinglist.
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-cuteness
Thanks!
Romaine
Hi all,
Wendy the Weasel likes to give input on the creation of this mailing list:
Meow meow.
She also likes to mention the custom which is that each mascot should have
somewhere on Commons a photo with the organisation (group of people) the
mascot is the mascot of. In this way we can make sure an organisation/group
in the movement supports the mascot and we can check if the mascot is
actually cute. This is of course a requirement to join the Wikimedia
Cuteness Association
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Cuteness_Association>.
Also we should create for ourselves an overview of the mascots and their
personal assistants, so that in case of a cute emergency, we can
communicate easily and fast.
Let me introduce myself, I am Romaine, the personal assistant of Wendy the
Weasel. Wendy has also Dimi as a personal assistant. Wendy is the mascot of
the Free Knowledge Advocacy Group EU
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/EU_policy>. Wendy can be found on:

Coming Friday we organise in Brussels a party because of the great work of
Wendy, and because on Friday Freedom of Panorama
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_panorama> comes into force in
Belgium!!
We hope that other countries will follow with getting this freedom.
Greetings from Wendy,
Romaine
